Discovery ending with Season 5

At the beginning of production, but he's said recently he would like to do more stories.
More than the 3 seasons of Picard? Or something else? Are you saying that Stewart wants to do a 4th season, but they cancelled it anyway?

Jonathan Frakes says it "sucks" and "don't hold your breath" for anything else in the 32nd century. Link.
I'm really beginning to wonder now, between Frake's words here and Calypso, if the 32nd century seasons are going to be retconned into being an alternate timeline rather than let Trek connect the dots all the way up to the Burn. If Trek doesn't keep 32nd century Trek alive in screens in the future, it's going to be less relevant as time goes on and future writers might not want to be tied down to Discovery's later season canon.

It wouldn't be a retcon.

Using Star Trek's own rules for Time Travel, we've been in an alternate timeline since Burnham's mother first used the Red Angel suit to save her life in the deserts of Vulcan.

Discovery was a prequel, any changes made to the timeline in that show already happened from the perspective of TOS onward.

If they can retcon the visual differences between DSC/SNW and TOS, they can retcon that the Burn doesn't take place in the 31st century of the PICverse.

I definitely think someone is eventually gonna do a show that messes with Disco 32nd canon.
Not for the angry doomknob reasons but just because it's a huge period of a time gap and Trek is forever contradicting it's own canon. By season 2 of TOS it was already at it.

Well there was clearly a problem with the show otherwise it would not be on the chopping block.
Well, let's see. Picard's already ending. Lower Decks is cheaper to make. So that leaves Prodigy, Discovery, and SNW. Prodigy and SNW will have two seasons, DSC will have five. If you have to cut one more out, which one do you cut? The ones that just started or the one that's been on for years and more-or-less ran its course? You cut the one that ran its course.

SNW will probably similarly run five seasons. They want to make a bunch of Star Trek shows. And they can't make new ones until the ones they already have start ending. So, they have to decide "Has this series run long enough?"

The Burn is just one possible future. New Trek shows, regardless of the time period they are set in, do not have to be beholden to what was shown in DSC. It's not like CBS is all that concerned with inter-show continuity as it is.

CBS themselves do not care about 'lore.' Anything that crosses over between shows is the product of the writers and showrunners, not CBS.
According to the novel writers Paramount cares that the books don't violate canon, so why would they care about that and not the shows themselves?
