The only people who will choose to look at it in this outdated fashion are the ones with an emotional investment in downplaying it, lol.

Nope. Just because it's streaming does not mean we can't look at a series length by episode count rather than season count. And 24 episode seasons are hardly outdated.

What streaming hour-long shows have 24 episode seasons? What streaming hour-long shows have ever had 24 episode seasons?

So we ended up getting 2.7 seasons of Discovery going by the standard 24 per season.....:guffaw: Enterprise is now no longer the shortest live action Trek Series. Besides Picard. :D
The avg length for Discovery episodes is longer so add about 6.5. 72 old episodes.

None. I'm talking tv shows in general. Walking dead just finished it last season with 24 eps. I think Grey's Anatomy still does 24 eps as well as blue bloods...

Most Streaming shows are more like 30 episode mini series. Most seem to end in the the 3 year range.....

My original vote was for 4 seasons.
God I hate Youtube. Already the usual suspects are labeling season 5 "Cancelation"

Why so many fuckheads hate Discovery?

Agreed. However, even Walking Dead's longer seasons weren't the norm. Seasons 10-11 had more than 20 episodes each. The other seasons had 16 episodes or less.

Yeah I know. It was a surprise they finished off with traditional sized seasons after so long. I won't lie. I miss 24 episode seasons of Trek. Almost a third of Picard S3 has already been show. ...:(

We all can't love everything. I feel your pain though when a lot of people hate something you love. I always feel the need to defend it as well.

I'm someone who did not love Discovery as well. So many things wrong with it. Those running the franchise now are learning...SLOWLY...but they are learning. Trek has never been perfect. It's ran to long to be "perfect". But some of the weird intentional decisions they made for the show were probably some of the weirdest I have ever seen come out of post TOS Trek.......as I mentioned earlier ...I cannot unsee the Turbolift funhouse of horror. I just can't...lol

To be clear there was much I did like about Discovery. But sadly it is my least favorite Trek....

The only reason the tenth season had twenty-two episodes was because of the pandemic. They wanted a "dry-run" to see test out filming under pandemic restrictions, and since production of the eleventh season had been postponed anyway, they decided to add "bonus episodes" to the tenth season as this "dry-run." Indeed, writing had already begun on the eleventh season when these bonus episodes were written which is why all six of those episodes are either epilogues to season 10, setting up something for season 11 or standalone episodes which don't really advance the show's arc at all.

Season 11's twenty-four episodes was mostly a necessity to the fact when the cancellation notice came down, they hadn't been planning the eleventh season out as a final season, so they got extra episodes there in order to properly wrap everything up.

It should be noted, spin-off series Fear the Walking Dead will be ending this year, and its final season will in fact be shorter than usual. Twelve episodes as opposed to the usual sixteen.

Well it did get cancelled somewhat. From what I understand they are filming some extra stuff now that they know it will be the shows final season. What didn't happen though and what I suspect the Youtubers might claim is the show finally got cancelled for failing due to wokeness.

In reality I think it's more about saving money and the merger between CBS and Showtime. Plus I think the people behind the scenes are still wanting that big hit so they have a Trek show that is as beloved at the level of The Mandalorian or Last of Us. They got the Yellowstone stuff but I think they would love for Trek to put out a hit on that scale, especially for when the merger does happen.

Oh oh my yes the turbolift funhouse.... Even the Enterprise had one
Only in the Short Trek, we haven't seen it yet in Strange New Worlds. The Short Trek also had a completely different Engineering that Strange New Worlds ignored. Probably because it wasn't practical.

People hyper focus on innane details, and let it diminish a show way more than the weight of the element would indicate.

It would be like me hating TNG because command is supposed to be a different color. It feels like that.

It does to a degree. I didn't mind it as such as I took it as artistic license

Berman era standard was 26 episodes per season. There were writers strikes that shortened some years. And sometimes the new shows launched mid-season of the existing, so had fewer episodes. And there is some debate about some 2 parters counting as 1 ep or two, but:

TOS: 29, 26, 24 = 79. Not counting "The Cage."

TAS: 16, 6 = 22.

TNG: 26, 22, 26, 26, 26, 26, 26 = 178 (syndicated), 176 original broadcast.

DS9: 20, 26, 26, 26, 26, 26, 26 = 176 (syndicated), 173 original broadcast.

VOY: 16, 26, 26, 26, 26, 26, 26 = 172 (syndicated), 168 original broadcast.

ENT: 26, 26, 24, 22 = 98 (syndicated), 97 original broadcast. UPN cut S3 from 26 to 24. Which would have given them 100.

DISCO: 15, 14, 13, 13, 10 = 65.
