Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

It’s also seen on a cutaway of the ship on one of the consoles.

I wonder if the ‘Neo-Constitution’ name was something that was made up after production. Considering it’s only called Constitution III on the set.

The only time it’s spoken on screen is during a voice over which was clearly ADR’d in, not recorded the same day as the scene. Makes me think Riker may have originally said Connie 3,

It was either Dave Blass or Terry (or both) that said Neo-Constitution was a nickname, while the technical class name is Constitution III. Hence why it’s on the plaque and engineering console display.
Riker's voice-over as he and Picard were approaching the T-A in spacedock sounded different, both tonally and with a slight change in volume, when he says the class name. I suspect the name was a last-minute change and Frakes had to re-dub that single line of dialogue.

Yeah that is what I was referring to.

By the way, was anyone else seeing the similarity of some aspects of the Shrike's design ( the nacelles for example) to the bigger Dominion battlecruisers seen during the Dominion War in DS9?

I didn't register these things before in the first two episodes, but now i can't unsee them.

The Xindi-Insectoid ships, the vessel in "Fight or Flight(ENT)" and others come to mind. Though knowing the producers this will be a new design having no in-universe connection to those.

I wonder if the minions of Vadic are wearing a new kind of environmental suit being used by the Breen, that more resembles what they really look like underneath. They've been an enigma for decades - a powerful race, formerly aligned with the Dominion, with pointy curvy ships, and a similar-sounding broken-static-noise language. Just a thought...

The Breen were on the losing side in the Dominion War, being the Dominion's ally until the very end and even after the Cardassians had switched sides. The past 25 years or so could have been rough on the Breen as a galactic power and many societal changes could have happened as a result of going down in history as the species that not only helped the Founders try to conquer the Alpha Quadrant but were believers until the ceasefire went into effect.

Exactly. I'm thinking that the Breen, broken and defeated (much like post-WWI Weimar-republic Germany) have decided to join common cause with the rogue Founders. They were always willing and eager participants, and their ships boasted weapons that nobody else in the war had, much like the freakshow arsenal that the Shrike possesses.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it, anyway! :D

There probably is some Son'a influence here. I just hope beyond hope that there isn't. The Breen are much cooler adversaries, IMO.

Well, I actually like that with Picard S3 Episode 3 we have an explanation for WHY the Shrike is SO well armed. It's not a privately owned Bounty Hunter's ship - It's brimming with Dominion main line warship tech and designed and built by the Dominion military most likely.

So Drexler posted this today. Being that it mentions the Starfleet Museum, a place that we know we're going to see this season, I'm guessing we're going to the Refit NX-01 in all its "glory".

My opinion on the refit is mixed. Always kinda thought it threw off the balanced look of the ship. But that's me. I'm sure there's people who will be extatic to see it.

What I'm still most curious about is if we'll see the Enterprise-A and if they'll have upscaled her to match the upscaled SNW 442m Enterprise or the 560m Titan-A with it's 3 deck Refit inspired Saucer.

My other issue is - given said refit adds a secondary hull to the original design; why is the crew compliment still at 83? You think with all the added internal volume and systems, they'd up the crew compliment a bit. :)

I actually really like the refit NX, seems like a very plausible and realistic design evolution. I hope we get some good views of all the museum ships. They're probably all going to be STO models, but still will be cool to see on screen.
It's not that I dislike the design, I just think it's a bit beyond just a refit. To me, it would make more sense as a new build. An NX mk. II. The whole ship would be designed in incorporate the new secondary hull design. It just strikes me as odd to just slap such a massive section onto a ship thar wasn't designed for it. It turned the rather graceful look of the NX Class into something less visually appealing, imo.

It could also be something the art team just made for him, not something from the show.

My only problem with the refit, in the context of the show, is I would think the museum would revert it to its launch look, as it's most famous adventures would have been in that configuration.

Also a majority of fans only know the NX-01 in its original appearance.

Compared to the Titan/Titan-A it is a really logical refit.
