I may be a contrarian, but after three episodes, the Raffi storyline is leagues better than the Picard storyline. It's not even close.

Everyone on the Titan suddenly becomes incompetent to the point where you wonder how Picard was ever some kind of genius tactician to have a move named after him and they also all do a 180 from the positions they had in the last episode.

Meanwhile, Raffi and Worf are getting shit done and have an actual plot that propels them. Of course we don't see them necessarily being competent - Worf just magically has the answer all along - but at least they're not incompetent.

I assume there's a reason to put them nebula to find whatever it is that's unknown there, but the writers could have find any number of ways to get them there. It's made worse because there's absolutely no peril, because unless Riker is getting a Romulan to tear out his eyeballs soon, we know everyone is going to be safe anyway.

I'm hoping there's an actual DS9 cameo... not knowing any casting news, I have no idea if that's the case or not.
Picard was a peace time captain

They mentioned the nebula being part organic, I wonder if it is connected to the Great Link in some way?

It's that pitcher plant thing from the Delta Quadrant! WOW!

Probably not..

Murf needs a bath...
Definitely a root beer float.

Forget Enterprise Bingo--let's play Changeling Spellbee!!! The center letter is O.

Michael Dorn is as fantastic as ever, he remains such an asset for Trek. I also laughed at the "sub-contractor" line after Joel talked about how cool contractors were back in the day last week!

Not sure i agree with changelings in this way - and surely there must be watertight systems to detect them on any Starfleet ship? It was only 20 years ago. Anyway, let's see.

Still some forced conflict - why didn't Riker release his ship's first officer after taking command, her having been incarcerated for helping him in the first place? All so Jack could punt the guard, I think. But apart from that, a much stronger ep than the past two.
Imagine if they did the same with Kirk and Spock

Poor Captain Shaw, sidelined by exploding bridge stuff which he himself earlier stated was Picard's stock in trade. Can't wait for the Shaw Facepalm memes to hit the net!

Poor Captain Shaw, had to give over command to the Guest / Substitute Captain Riker =D

I'm pretty sure Riker has a exemplery Combat Record that is even better than JLP's Combat Record.

Going off of some of the craziness we saw on Lower Decks? Probably.

A 10 for me! It had everything. Every scene was meaningful. And this ep gave us some big reveals about the overall plot this season. We get some exposition from Worf about a terrorist faction of Changelings that wants revenge for losing the Dominion War. Clearly it was Odo that warned Worf. The big threat of the season is coming together. The weapon stolen from Daystrom is likely Lore.

Good
Wrath of Khan style nebula fight.
Use of the portal weapon for some innovative tactics
Picard got his "17 seconds" moment that Riker referenced where he knows he is a dad
Picard and Crusher talk was heart felt. He can see both points of view.
Changeling saboteur. Nice call back to DS9.
Crusher being a doctor
Riker using his tactical skills!
Worf line "I am Worf, son of Mogh, slayer of Gowron, would you like some tea". Great line. And Michael Dorn has not forgotten how to play Worf.
Worf and Raffi work great together. Nice back and forth.

Easily the "best" PIC episode to date.
prefered the "DS9" Worf/Raffi scenes and storyline rather than the TNG stuff (Seven + LaForge aside :adore:)

So what do Changelings want or need with Jack Crusher? Isn't he just a worthless solid to them? (further solidified now that the Changeling on the Titan outright tried to kill him) Picard was basically irrelevant in the Dominion War unless I missed something in DS9.

Yeap I have the same questions/thoughts.

So my guess is that the main antagonist ...
(who we haven't seen yet but at this point we may have a pretty good idea who it is),
... doesn't really want the Titan-A and it's current crew to be completely destroyed.
It's just going to be stuck in the anomaly, like being in amber.

Imitating how the possible main antagonist was "stuck away" by Picard for many years.
Vadic could have destroyed the ship easily at any point, but was obviously under orders not to.

Perhaps that same entity is also manipulating the rogue changelings?
I wouldn't put it past that entity to do so, since they pretty much did the same with a group of Borg.

I'm also thinking that the old holodeck character may be the one who saves the day.

Wasn't Lore at Daystrom, so how could he "command" these Changelings from there?
I'm not sure Lore is the main antagonist if at all.
I think you are correct however with Moriatti probably not being the foe.

They mentioned the nebula being part organic, I wonder if it is connected to the Great Link in some way?

Had a similar thought, but not about the great link, but rather this Changeling-faction.
Especially when they mentioned bio signatures + it's "strategic" location "just" outside federation space.

my working theory:
Changeling-faction stealing Badgey/Peanut Hamper Lore + Moriatti at Daystrom because they need them for something TBD in order to help them destroy Starfleet/solids...
(* still think it's possible Lore/Moriatti, one or both eventually change sides and actually help btw.)

Vadic's crew and likely also herself are DS9/Section31 virus-infected/affected changelings.
Don't remember the details of the virus/effects, but it would explain their faces/masks and dim lights + they way the intruders were "pulverised" when destroyed by rifle-Crusher is a hint, now that we've seen the Worf/Raffi terminating one.

  • Why is Vadik after Jack Crusher/Picard? "JL" didn't know he had a son, so that can't have been the plan to get him involved for revenge.
  • Who is Vadik and why does it seem personal revenge to her?
  • Is Vadik a tool or the leader?
  • Can we expect DS9 people to show up now?, after Oddo (RIP Rene Auberjonois) got a mention. Afterall the Dominior War was primarily on their series.
  • "nebula" is the these changelings-factions-new-great-link

That was like the best Star Trek in 23 years. I have no complaints. Even warming up to Raffi now.

This can't be the last season. They finally have a creative team that knows how to make Star Trek again.

Careful, there are 2 or 3 that seem to get upset when one makes statements like that.
Accurate though!

Last week I gave Ep2 an objective 7/10, this is an easy 10/10!

Lots of good things but some not so good.

Good things:Worf of course. Sydney LaForge, the changelings, Riker takes command..
Bad things: Beverly Crusher never telling Picard about his son. I mean come on 23 or so years and she kept it quiet. No way. Her excuse was weak especially since she basically brought the danger to Picard this time.
Riker telling Picard he just killed the crew. He took Picards suggestion and maybe took it to late. I suspect he will apologize by next episode.

I read this about a 7. I fear this battle may carry on several episodes. It might get a bit boring. That's the problem with an arc based season. Filler time will be coming up.

Honestly see both sides of the Crusher and Picard argument. I think Crusher holds a lot of trauma which started with her parents then to Jack and Wesley…she couldn’t have that life anymore. That doesn’t mean she should have kept Jack from Picard but I can see where her response was driven from. Hopefully it gets fleshed out more so I’m not jumping straight onto the Beverly character assassination line of thought just yet. Terry said in an interview that the audience would think Beverly was right all along and this isn’t quite cutting it for me. So I am still convinced there is more going on with Jack II and everything.

Jack and Seven are a surprisingly good pairing. They work well off each other. ‘You’re insane’ was a favorite line of the ep (but Worf takes the top spot)

Worf and Raffi are great together as well. Yes to everything. And the Changellings! Not much of a surprise considering the IMDB casting leak but the reveal was done well.

Riker and Picard stuff is good as well. But I am more interested in Worf and some of the newer characters over their conflict if I am honest! But both actors are killing it.

I love this moment with Worf.

"I am Worf, son of Mogh, House of Martok, son of Sergei, House of Roshenko, bane to the Duras family, slayer of Gowron. I've made some chamomile tea. Do you take sugar?"

The writers really found Worf's "voice". Worf sounded like Worf. And kudos to Michael Dorn. He slipped right back into the role. He was Worf again!
