Being a peace lover and pacifist doesn't mean that they have to let their starships to be outgunned by those ragtag entities like bounty hunters, rebels, pirates, etc.
It's pretty clear that Vadic is anything but rag tag and that Shaw's original mission profile would not have involved encoutering anything like it. So, I don't see this as being normally problematic, except this is a TV show so drama.
It's also annoying how over the top well armed the Shrike is; why do they always feel the need to make the enemy vessel superduper powerful?
Drama.
Worf's entrance was great though, I wonder if they made the scene blurry because making it a convincing action scene would have been difficult. I don't mind though, the results of the fight speak for themselves. A pacifist indeed
I rewatched it three times and the only time I felt the blur was from Raffi's perspective, which was obviously deliberate. Other than that, totally serviceable combat stunt work.

My opinion on the big reveal?

It’s a cover. It’s actually a clone of Jack Crusher, and Picard knows this, and pretends it’s his son because he wants to protect his “old Friend” after not being able to on the Stargazer. He felt he owed it to both Jack and Beverly. And Riker recognizes Jack as Jack, and that’s why he asking Picard about the obvious.

Well that’s my hope anyway. But as long as whatever the truth is is entertaining, I don’t care.
I see three possibilities:

1. He really is Picard’s son.
2. He isn’t, but Picard believes he is.
3. He isn’t, and Picard knows he isn’t, but lied in order to trick other people into being more willing to risk themselves for him.

#3 is pretty awful IMO.

I'm a little bit disappointed with the Jack Crusher reveal. I feel like there's been an effort to "Kirkify" Picard since season 1 and this revelation doesn't help. They should be two different characters, but this makes it seem like Picard is destined to live nearly the same life as Kirk, unknown son and all.

David was not "unknown" to Kirk. He was aware of him and respected Carol's wishes to stay away.

Kirk may have known that he had a son, but he did not immediately recognize him when they met. Plus, I said it seemed like Picard was destined to live a life nearly similar to Kirk's, not exactly the same.

^ Takes me back to TNG Season 1: How do TNG characters deal with TOS stories? So it's like TNG going back to its roots. ;)

I like it better than the fake-out that was Season 7's "Bloodlines" where Picard thought he had a long-lost son, and then it turned out he didn't. Look at it this way: At least they didn't make Jack into a scientist. All Jack has in common with David is a father who wasn't there.

There's a whole ton more I can say about the episode but I'm actively trying to cut down on posting. I've got too many things going on and this place is too much of a drain on my time if I allow it to be.

Other items:

The Shrike is an awesome ship!

I like Vadic even more as a villain more than Chang. Kudos to Amanda Plummer's performance! The daughter has surpassed the father. She's so effortlessly a villain.

Throwing a ship at another ship was something new.

The Ferengi here reminds me of The Penguin in The Batman. I also like the beard stubble. It really adds that extra touch which makes him look just that much more scummy.

My brother said this, so I can't take credit for this last bit, but this is the first time TNG Ferengi have seemed scary. Which, as he points out, was the original concept for the Ferengi.

Ane One Final Thing: Worf is a total badass!

I haven't read the rest of the posts, so I have no idea why I'm supposed to hate this. But all of you who do are wrong.

Well the end credits sequence shows a couple computer screens doing a Picard DNA comparison, so they may do an actual test after. Or it could just be symbolizing their relation.

Another mehhhh episode, which featured way too much Raffi, who honestly, why is she still on the series when they wrote everyone else "new" off of it? TBH, Worf's 30 second rescue not only saved the character but also the episode itself. Heroic, no nosense Worf, now that's something to watch! The rest of it, yeah idk. Picard's son? Goodness, ripping off Wrath of Khan now? With the first episode kinda having a Search for Spock vibe. Love seeing Amanda Plummer in just about anything....

Yeah. If this comes as a surprise to anyone they are new to the franchise.
Exactly. It's kind of expected now.

The TNG movies sort of did it twice, first with Soran and the trilithium missiles in GEN and then with Shinzon's warpath of vengeance against Picard and the Federation in NEM.
Indeed, and both were a poor fit for the cast of characters. GEN had the saving grace of being the last TOS involved film which kept it from bombing entirely, but that's kind of damning with faint praise.

And GEN is a fun movie for me and I like it. It's got more warts than an elderly frog but Shatner and McDowell sell that movie with so much charm and oomph that it'll always be rewatchable to me.
I enjoy GEN, too. My favorite scene is where Picard and Kirk meet and chat a bit in Kirk's old house. Oh, and you'll never hear me bash people's movie preferences. I love Star Trek V for Christ sake, I have no room to talk.

Kirk basically telling Picard to go pound sand because he's generations older than Jean-Luc and Kirk wants to have breakfast with the woman he loves was worth the price of admission.

I think I'm in love with Dr. Ohk. :adore: I wonder if she's joined?

Probably. Trill Symbionts tend to have short names like Dax, Odan, Tal, etc.

And you know what, it just hit me that way back in "The Host", we never learn Odan's host's name! At least not the male host.
