Dave Blass has started posting pictures of all the ships seen in Episode 1

Some non-human and non-western names in there.

And I'm sticking with my view that Shaw has every right to order Seven to go by her human name. He's the captain, and that gives him the right. When Seven has a ship of her own, she can call herself whatever the hell she "identifies" with. Until then? :censored:ing DEAL with it.
I don't like you anymore.

In my experience, folks usually say PEE when they are kidding or joking around, whereas PISS is usually reserved for times when someone is cranky or being sarcastic in some manner.

And yet I can communicate with people from England. So it hasn't changed that much. I can say "wizard" and people will get it. I can use swear words and someone from the 1500s would get it.

There is some differences, but not as much.

When Trek tried to invent future slang we got "Way of Eden."

Current linguistical theory is that East Coast English is actually closer to the English accents of the british isles in the 15/1600s as in the UK the received pronunciation accent become a fashion icon largely adopted by the toffs and emergent, merchant middle classes of the 1700s, followed by a slew of national schooling initiatives derived from people with those accents, who wanted people to at the bare minimum, give of an impression of good education and upbringing.

How I speak to most people, such as here or other brits from elsewhere, is radically different from my actual local dialetic accent, but faint traces remain in the pronunciation of certain words. So instead of "bus" I say "buzz" instead of "day" I say "dee", etc. A lot of "incoming" locals soon embrace other local quirks, such as our greeting which is "Ey Up Mi Duck".

Amusingly, the first "proper" waves of people from radically different parts of the country started in my area in the 1970s and 1980s and I found in our local history archive a "translation sheet" which translated the local dialect into very highly educated english!

Fact is, the Universal Translator takes care of most of this with a lovely hand wave both in-universe and on the show, we're watching it all through that lens.

Linguists. They track language and how it changes. Even now they say the English language here has changed much since this country was colonized by the British. So currently the US English language is different than England's. Language us like a living organism it constantly changes. The earlier shows had it right by bit including present day slang. Much more accurate.
They can track where its been and compare that to where its at, but not really where its going.

Also if Seven's name makes Shaw uncomfortable, then that is by definition his own problem and one that he needs to resolve on his own. He has no right to make his problem Seven's problem. I think that at the end of the day, Shaw needs to get over himself, buckle up and stop being such a pathetically fragile little snowflake.

If seven of nine identifies as Seven of Nine, (and that's what she wants to use as her name); Shaw is completely out of line.

And given that it is procedure that the Captain selects his Executive Officer himself, I find it kind of strange that Shaw would select her knowing that's the name she prefers; and further that she would take the assignment once she knew that he refuses to allow her to use the name she's chosen.

(And if she's not allowed to refuse the assignment on that basis, then I think we've answered whether or not Starfleet is in fact a true military organization in the 25th Century, has she must be doing what she's been ordered to do by the Admiralty.)

I think Seven is doing her best to fulfill what she thinks Starfleet, Janeway and Picard expect of her to fulfill her duty.
She puts up with it because she is the person putting her personal needs behind everything else.
And she suffers as a result as Picard picks up almost instantly on.
But he knows there is a solution to her conflict without giving up Starfleet.

Personally, I don't want to see Seven stay in Starfleet. I think a show focusing on the Fenris and what's happening over in the former neutral zone could make a truly unique Star Trek universe show.

No, he just changed over the 20 years since nemesis.

Or the writing team did. Regardless, it's good to have him back to the Picard we remember this season.

From those who have seen the 10 episodes, Picard does not get 'humbled' this season. So that's a good start.

I actually like Shaw. I can definitely sympathize with him. I don't blame him one bit for being grumpy to Picard and Rike

Shaw is an awesome character. Just wait. The perfect foil for Picard and Riker.

The irony of his character hating the Borg, but also being a very methodical, ordered individual who is set in his ways. There's a lot to mine there.

Thanks for sharing!
I have a hard time saving/copying any of the images. Instagram does not seem to support a Save As feature.
No, the site a real pain in the ass about that. If you're on a computer, your browser should have some kind of "Web Inspector" feature you can use to access all the individual files loaded on to the page, and you can download the images you want that way. Or people could make proper websites for themselves rather than renting space on social networks meant to show vacation photos and what you had for lunch.

I would have liked that, but I think that ship has sailed. TPTB seems to have decided that Trek shows have to revolve around Starfleet in some form or other.
