I don't give too many of these, but this is a 10 in my book.
The old but good:
1. The music-- perhaps it could be argued as fan service, but dang, some of the callback music was spot-on and sent shivers.
2. Some of the callback sequences (I'm looking at you, spacedock and Titan launch.)
3. The "Neo-Constitution Class" Titan complete with the little red pinstripe straight out of TOS. So cool
The new and fun:
1. The new Captain of the Titan. He's going to be a guy I enjoy disliking (although I actually have to begrudgingly respect him). His strictness, antagonism toward Picard and Riker, and not allowing 7 to be called what she wants made him a total tool.
However, I actually *liked* that Picard and Riker thought that they were going to come in and manipulate the new Captain into doing their bidding. He was confident and smart enough to be having none of it and was like "You are retired, and you may be a captain, but you are not in command of this ship, so I think I'm going to follow Starfleet's orders on this one..."
2. Jason "Raffi" Bourne, Starfleet Intelligence. I'm really interested in seeing where that thread goes and if Starfleet ends up being the Treadstone of that relationship.
3. The dialogue between characters was very well done, especially between Riker and Picard. "Nice recovery Admiral." "Shut your mouth, captain!" And "Your hands are stiff and my knees are killing me. We will be fine as long as we don't have to run or shoot!" I also loved the dead ended dialogue between Raffi and her handler/or possible AI system.
Ultimately, I found that this episode set up some very interesting threads AND it passed so quickly, I was surprised when the credits rolled (and even the music and graphics for the end credits were just cool as well).
