Overall, I give it a 9. I really enjoyed the memberberries.

Two questions though, about Riker. How is he still only a captain and why doesn't he have a ship? Does he keep turning down commands to keep from having a desk job? Did he screw something up on a mission and has been sidelined?

I don't think he is Thomas Riker. There's too much familiarity with Picard. I could be wrong, but I don't get the feeling there is subterfuge with him.

I gave this episode a 7, which based on my post yesterday, I'm intregued by what is to come but this episode was severely overhyped.

I still think it's incredibly dark as there were scenes that were just hard to see overall. It was nice to see Stewart and Frakes together for an extended amount, but I'm worried when Riker said that Deanna and Kestra wanted to be away from him.

His resignation from Starfleet wasn't really voluntary, but because of his child's health. He wants to make up for what he missed. He is done with making pizza for now but i'm not worried about family problems.

I also wonder if some of Shaw's antipathy towards Seven is the fact that she's a relative celebrity that got put into Starfleet with a lot of help from PIcard and Janeway. She didn't have to go through the academy or spend years working her way up the chain of command, that might irritate some long time officers.
That is probably true, but it seems the writers are going to present the conflict between the two of them being due to Captain Shaw's past history with the Borg as the main culprit.
His disdain toward Seven also splashed over on to Picard (Locutus).

He resigned from Starfleet? Why was he still wearing the uniform then? I must of missed an episode because he was still in Starfleet post Nepenthe.

Terrible character. Therefore they must die!

Man, no wonder people hated me when talking Star Trek back in the 90s. I wanted Picard to die because I thought he was a terrible character!
Looking forward to when Shaw dies.

Sorry, but the TOS Movies are why I'm a fan in the first place. I love that we have this character we love to hate. (the general "we", not you) He's like Styles and Esteban rolled into one. It's gonna be great. I hope he's like the lawyer in Jurassic Park who gets eaten. ;)

I doubt you're alone ;)

I can see that but it's different if it is a character you love to hate, or just a character you don't like. Wishing death upon them strikes me as...Ewok or Jar Jar level hatred ;)

Yes, but I might have missed his (Cpt. Shaw's) "past history with the Borg".
Well there must be something eventful there for him to have taken the attitude of being outright rude to a Star Fleet Admiral. (retired or not)
And his treatment of his First Officer seems to indicate that she was not his first choice, her being an "Ex-Borg" as well.

If it's the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Federation itself, 2411 would need to be the year assuming 2161 is the correct founding year.
The poster that pops up on Raffi’s screen says Starfleet.

Re-watch? Bridge Commander was a computer game...
I thought you meant the pre-rendered cutscenes.
Either way nothing in this episode looked anything like bridge commander.

It would interesting if Captain Shaw actually turns out to be a super competent captain and helps save the day. After all, we've have not seen him actually captain the ship in a crisis yet, we just saw him at dinner. He was rude to Seven, Picard and Riker but maybe he is actually a very competent and good captain in a crisis.

One would think that he'd have to be, given his already long term position on the ship.
But that doesn't excuse him being rude to comparable Star Fleet Officers.

I'm so glad Picard season 3 is back and it was nice to see Laris again and the fact Beverly at long last and see her fighting back and saving herself and sending her message asking Picard for help and seeing Riker return and the story arcs for Raffi and Seven and it was well done. Captain Shaw is a interesting character. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the season.I vote 10.

I don't give too many of these, but this is a 10 in my book.
The old but good:
1. The music-- perhaps it could be argued as fan service, but dang, some of the callback music was spot-on and sent shivers.
2. Some of the callback sequences (I'm looking at you, spacedock and Titan launch.)
3. The "Neo-Constitution Class" Titan complete with the little red pinstripe straight out of TOS. So cool

The new and fun:
1. The new Captain of the Titan. He's going to be a guy I enjoy disliking (although I actually have to begrudgingly respect him). His strictness, antagonism toward Picard and Riker, and not allowing 7 to be called what she wants made him a total tool.
However, I actually *liked* that Picard and Riker thought that they were going to come in and manipulate the new Captain into doing their bidding. He was confident and smart enough to be having none of it and was like "You are retired, and you may be a captain, but you are not in command of this ship, so I think I'm going to follow Starfleet's orders on this one..."
2. Jason "Raffi" Bourne, Starfleet Intelligence. I'm really interested in seeing where that thread goes and if Starfleet ends up being the Treadstone of that relationship.
3. The dialogue between characters was very well done, especially between Riker and Picard. "Nice recovery Admiral." "Shut your mouth, captain!" And "Your hands are stiff and my knees are killing me. We will be fine as long as we don't have to run or shoot!" I also loved the dead ended dialogue between Raffi and her handler/or possible AI system.

Ultimately, I found that this episode set up some very interesting threads AND it passed so quickly, I was surprised when the credits rolled (and even the music and graphics for the end credits were just cool as well).
