9/10 for me because a few things made me go "Ehhh...." but overall I enjoyed it and was left wanting the next episode to come out immediately, which IMO is always a good sign.
+ The TWOK "In the 25th Century..." callback got a smile out of me.
+ Obviously Eaglemoss Enterprise-D models are obvious. But the whole "fat ones" exchange was great.
+ I'm intrigued as to why Deanna and Kestra would be happy to have time away from Riker...
- I didn't feel like the Titan deserved the TMP/TNG fanfare upon its reveal. I've always felt that should be reserved for the Enterprise. Should have had its own theme.
- Speaking of the Titan, why was so much dialogue hinting that this used to be Riker's Titan when it's not the Luna Class he was canonically the captain of? This is the Titan-A and clearly an entirely new ship. Why would Shaw have to clear out Riker's old files when he took command? They really should have just made it the same Titan as Riker's and have it be a Luna-class...or...drop the Titan name altogether and name it something else. This was one of those "Ehhh..." moments.
- Riker kind of came off as a jerk/moron by publicly embarrassing Sydney LaForge like that.
- Why was Seven so uncomfortable piloting the Titan out of spacedock? Seemed a little shoehorned in just to capture another TWOK callback. Also...damn Crash LaForge almost did it a third time with how close the Titan got to those doors. She gave Scotty a run for his money.
+ I know Shaw is being a dick, but I actually *loved* his scenes. So often we see characters fawning over our heroes and it's refreshing to see someone call them out. They really did do some pretty irresponsible things in their day. I don't know if we're supposed to like him and maybe I just like Todd Stashwick but I'm enjoying his character, aside from his clear anti-ex-Borg bigotry.
+ The Picard/Riker dynamic is worth the price of admission alone. Riker's slip-up calling Picard Captain was brilliant.
- The First Contact music over the end credits seemed odd. Could they not compose original music for this? It came across rather fan film-y to me.
+/- I love that we can see the ships and we actually linger on them for a while....but the effects shots are, as has been said, decidedly low quality. Not only do 30-year-old SFX look better, but I've also seen work done by fans look 10x better. Some of those shots looked like something out of 2002's Bridge Commander.
+ This should have been Picard Season 1. It makes me want to pretend Seasons 1-2 never happened.
It is the skeleton of Riker’s Titan:
Launched in 2402 under the command of Captain Liam Shaw. Work began on a refit using the original Titan space frame, however, with the development of cutting-edge propulsion technology, the Titan’s design changed mid-construction and a new ship took form. As per tradition, Starfleet engineers affectionally designated it as a refit having kept much of the original Titan’s internal components. The Constitution III was designed to cater to a close support envelope at sub-light speeds, namely in and around densely populated solar systems, as witnessed by its overpowered impulse engines. To date, the new Titan has the largest sub-light power-to-geometry ratio in the fleet.

Bit odd Riker says it has that "new ship smell" if it's been around for at least 5 years. Unless Shaw was captain of the previous Titan and oversaw its refit/rebuild/whatever, Captain Decker style.

And re that Frontier Day banner that is cut off, you see the other half of it on the same screen as Voyager-B, it's to celebrate the "250th anniversary of Starfleet".

Maybe this really is 2411? We'd be way past the 250th anniversary of the original Earth Starfleet by now.

So Shaw said he's been commanding the Titan for five years and completed 36 missions. given that the Star Trek Picard Logs state that the Titan-A was launched in 2402, it gives reason to believe that the events of this episode take place in at least 2407, maybe 2408 which means six years have passed. that's a helluva timeskip.

I don't think there's a major time jump - it fits within the logs that were released - it implies he was the Captain of the Luna class NCC-80102 - Titan prior to the refit. The log says the NCC-80102-A Constitution II class was "launched in 2402 under the command of Captain Liam Shaw" - this doesn't say he took command of it - the way I interpret - Captain Shaw helmed both NCC-80102 and NCC-80102-A.

Why does Beverly have a Pump-Action "First Contact" Phaser Rifle?

Those weren't supposed to be Pump-Action.

There's really no reason to have Pump-Action on phasers anyways.

It would explain why you can shoot bolts and beams with it - one is the finger trigger, the other is the pump trigger :D

I gave it a 9, but I think it's actually more like an 8 or 7.5 if I'm really honest.

I loved the scenes between Riker and Picard. I thought Shaw was fine too, but my money is on him kicking the bucket.

I thought the CGI for the Titan looked really off. I felt a bit cheap. Like shots from a video game. Too little detail on the hull etc.

The scenes with Raffi were all a bit meh. I love the actress, but I don't think this character suits her very well.

All in all a promising start...

I think it's the 250th Anniversary of the Coaltiion of Planets from 2155. That was a proto-version of the Federation that was founded in ENT Season 4. Federation history | Memory Alpha | Fandom

Go figure, its me, the non-ENT fan who caught this.

I really don't understand why Matalas and the production team are obsessed with term "refit"???!!!

They had to make up some silly and stupid backround story about new cutting-edge technology that turns an old ship into a new one. What is the purpose of all this? So much work and effort to leave Riker's Titon skeleton for Titan-A.

Today, when you build a stadium, it is much cheaper and more efficient to build a completely new stadium than to upgrade the old one. And why use an old skeleton in the 25th century, in the age of replicators, unlimited sources of materials and unlimited sources of energy??? Doesn't the skeleton also lose its quality and stability over time due to wars and battles? Totally unnecessary.

From the plane, you can see that Riker's Titan and this Titan-A have nothing to do with each other. Totally different concepts. They differ as much as Sisko's Defiant and Enterprise-D differ in design.
