9/10 for me because a few things made me go "Ehhh...." but overall I enjoyed it and was left wanting the next episode to come out immediately, which IMO is always a good sign.
+ The TWOK "In the 25th Century..." callback got a smile out of me.
+ Obviously Eaglemoss Enterprise-D models are obvious. But the whole "fat ones" exchange was great.
+ I'm intrigued as to why Deanna and Kestra would be happy to have time away from Riker...
- I didn't feel like the Titan deserved the TMP/TNG fanfare upon its reveal. I've always felt that should be reserved for the Enterprise. Should have had its own theme.
- Speaking of the Titan, why was so much dialogue hinting that this used to be Riker's Titan when it's not the Luna Class he was canonically the captain of? This is the Titan-A and clearly an entirely new ship. Why would Shaw have to clear out Riker's old files when he took command? They really should have just made it the same Titan as Riker's and have it be a Luna-class...or...drop the Titan name altogether and name it something else. This was one of those "Ehhh..." moments.
- Riker kind of came off as a jerk/moron by publicly embarrassing Sydney LaForge like that.
- Why was Seven so uncomfortable piloting the Titan out of spacedock? Seemed a little shoehorned in just to capture another TWOK callback. Also...damn Crash LaForge almost did it a third time with how close the Titan got to those doors. She gave Scotty a run for his money.
+ I know Shaw is being a dick, but I actually *loved* his scenes. So often we see characters fawning over our heroes and it's refreshing to see someone call them out. They really did do some pretty irresponsible things in their day. I don't know if we're supposed to like him and maybe I just like Todd Stashwick but I'm enjoying his character, aside from his clear anti-ex-Borg bigotry.
+ The Picard/Riker dynamic is worth the price of admission alone. Riker's slip-up calling Picard Captain was brilliant.
- The First Contact music over the end credits seemed odd. Could they not compose original music for this? It came across rather fan film-y to me.
+/- I love that we can see the ships and we actually linger on them for a while....but the effects shots are, as has been said, decidedly low quality. Not only do 30-year-old SFX look better, but I've also seen work done by fans look 10x better. Some of those shots looked like something out of 2002's Bridge Commander.
+ This should have been Picard Season 1. It makes me want to pretend Seasons 1-2 never happened.

Laris might end up being a largely wasted character - again - but at least she was in the episode and even if she vanishes until the very end of the season it was nice to see her.
Well, at least they didn't retcon that relationship and presumably won't be trying to ship Picard and Crusher. lol

Yeah I wondered why certain shots of the Titan VFX looked so much like budget CG. It's worse than SNW.

Shaw is great in E2, this here was only the first impression :D

First impressions matter. I don't really care that Shaw is being a hardass about Picard and Riker trying to hijack his flight plans; a guy shouldn't get Deckered on his own ship. The rest of it, though, is stuff that takes more heavy lifting to resolve than I think this show is capable of, given that Shaw isn't a main and there are more important characters to attend to. So here's hoping he accords himself competently and dies before the midpoint.

Yeah, this ep was fine. As suspected, all the ridiculously fawning and bowing reviews made the whole thing a tiny bit underwhelming. I'm not holding that against it of course, we're only 1/10th of the way there.

I'm interested to see where it all leads, and there wasn't anything that made me roll my eyes. (Not too hard at least. ;)) So that's a win.

Ah, barely readable

I was hoping the A would be a Pathfinder

I do wonder why Jonathan and Gates were credited as "Special Guest Stars" and not part of the Main cast line up.

It probably means they won't feature in every episode. But it's possible that Frakes and Mcfadden will appear in all episodes and the special guest credits are being used like "and-as" credits which is equivalent to top billing

Why do I get the feeling that Beverly's new son is the secret love child between Picard & Beverly.

That Beverly hid her pregnancy away and disappeared to raise him alone for whatever reason she may have.

Picard did state that the last time they talked, they ended up in a fight/argument.

Then she vanished.

That kind of stuff has happened IRL already to other people.

Where they didn't know they had a kid because the mother didn't tell them about it.

I think this is right on the money. He's the David. Which makes me a little bit worried about him...

So Renee Picard is canon? :)
