Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Plus a merger that big would probably a bad idea.

There would have to be quite a lot of assets being sold or spun off. Otherwise it would never be allowed by the FTC. Paramount owns Showtime. It makes sense to combine the two streamers. Just like how HBOMax and Discovery+ are about to be combined. Just like how Disney+ and Hulu should be combined.

Frankly, there are just too many streamers out there right now.

Grain of salt and all that, but I looked at the comments of RMB's latest Picard video and there was some person ranting about Troi and her fate.
They were saying that on 4Chan (yeah I know) people with screeners were leaking that Troi dies and he responded with "complete bullshit". He might be trying to throwing people off, but he could be debunking too.

I think I must be in the minority of Trek Fandom.
I get excited about any new Trek coming along and have enjoyed all of the shows and movies immensely.

I still get excited and I have enjoyed most of them except most of Discovery. Even with that I still tune in every episode always hoping it might be a good episode. The show being bad doesn't bug me as much as it use to though since we got plenty of other good Treks on like SNW,Lower Decks,Prodigy and Picard(sort of) and The Orville. All good official canon shows.

The actress who played Kestra is only 17 right now, 16 when this season was filmed, so still to young for the Academy, especially to graduate or be a cadet on the ship.

A Paramount+ and Showtime merger is going ahead.

There will need to be a new Star Trek series to help launch the premium Showtime service.

They're still pretty much keeping the prime name Paramount+. Showtime is already a part of the Paramount+ service as an add on, so they're probably just going to merge the two into one and up the overall price a bit going forward.

If anything this just means you may be seeing some of the Paramount+ new Star Trek content on the Showtime cable and satellite channels at some point soon after the merger.

When HBO Max started there were some items that were Max exclusives, and thus weren't being shown on any of the HBO cable or satellite channels. That's pretty much gone away and most of the new stuff on HBO Max ends up on the HBO cable and satellite channels at some point as well.

Paramount's just going to leverage their Library of content across more of their media entities. Certainly certain things will appear on Paramount+ before they appear on the Showtime cable and satellite channels, and vice versa.

Remember that Paramount also runs a free streaming service called Pluto TV; and they already have two Star Trek channels in the US version. The first one alternates between TNG & TOS, and the second channel shows DS9 continually.

I’m sorry if it has already been posted, but look - The USS Titan dedication plaque. I wish that we could embed Tweets here.

Oh right, I read that they were having a two tier subscription. A basic service and a premium service where prestige ‘hallmark’ shows would be streamed first.

I have just thought of a really good ‘get out of jail’ card for the production team just incase they cannot get a (Seven of Nine :p) spin-off series, or if there is a delay in doing so.

They could renew Picard for a fourth series, and it could be about Picard’s son. They would not need to change the series title as it is *still* about Picard… just a different one. A new series would not need to be commissioned, just a fan campaign for a continuation alongside good reception and neilsen ratings for season 3.

Also, I wonder how Wesley Crusher would feel about having a half brother? I would love to see ‘Traveller’ Wil Wheaton back in character again, but I hope that they do not bicker like William and Harry though.

The actress who played Kestra is only 17 right now, 16 when this season was filmed, so still to young for the Academy,
Wesley was 15 the first time he took the entrance exam and 17 when he actually did enter the Academy. Likewise, in DS9 Valiant, the Cadet Captain of the USS Valiant said "there are cadets as young as 17 doing the work of officers twice their age."

Kirk was 17 when he got into Starfleet Academy in the Prime Timeline(2250). Picard failed on his first attempt at the age of 17.
