Yup. It's exactly what I would expect and the kind of justification I see posted around here all the time. I have no issue with it, and actually respect Doug for doing so. Because it's what fans do. It's more amusing to me the frustration that comes from fans about these justifications.
I think they would probably want to leave the future of the Protostar kids open for the time being, so no clear references like that yet.
Terry Matalas apparently has a tweet up from some of the people doing the press previews in which someone asked him if he'd ever considered a "Captain Seven" show. He responded with a Seven gif of her saying "Every day of my life." From SFX we also know he's spoken about this being a baton handing series to the Next Next Generation, and considering it's littered with characters we don't know too deeply unless we read the comics (Raffi) or are introducing new but related Characters (Alandra LaForge) I suspect Matalas is lobbying fairly hard to continue exploring the 25th Century as there's JUST enough breathing space from TNG to put everyone out to pasture and enough time to claim all the upgrades in SFX tech is all that delicious borg tech that Starlfeet got its hands on and incorporated when Voyager returned home.
Someone who claims they've seen the streamers wrote that Spoiler Tom Riker shows up which would agree with the line in the trailer that people are not what they used to be
I am putting my money on those little creatures who took over Starfleet back in season 1 in Conspiracy, they are back to take over the federation thanks to that distress call and have already infected part of the Romulan empire, but this time they are out for a bit of payback for the Enterprise crew.
Spoiler Yes! The most easy to hide return ever? All Frakes needs to do is ruffle his hair and pop another jacket on! Plus it's long overdue.
The big twist is that Will Riker... is Tom Riker! He'll do the iconic bit where he peels off the sides of his beard revealing the evil goatee
Spoiler I swear if the "not everyone who goes into this comes out alive! Turns out to be a cheap Tom Riker death I will happily provide pitchforks and torches...[/spoiler[
I just posted about that in another thread. Also Beverly saying not to trust anyone, STarfleet personnel firing on eachother, and Raffi putting something in her eyes (to protect her?)
Unfortunately I think Raffi has gotten back into drug use and that's what we're seeing with the eye thing.
Well, she does have addiction issues. That game is a deep cut on addictive tendencies to turn even the most temperate of people into off-the-chain junkies. Wouldn't take nearly that much to kick her off that wagon.
The way Crusher warns Picard to "trust no one", remided me of the message he got from Walker Keel to "don't trust anyone"........and the whole "There is something coming" sound likes "something is beginning" from again Keel.
That was my suspicion too. She's either relapsed, or it's some sort of retinal blocker thing to stop some of the (increasingly creepy looking) I.D check casually slipped into Season 2 of Picard.
I think it was an ID scan, and possibly not a willing one. Iirc, Matalas said something about Raffi getting back to her roots, so my guess she's involved in some kind of intelligence/spy ops situation. Possibly unsanctioned - I'm still leaning toward a revenge and/or rescue mission concerning her son.
