Justin Roiland looking at 7 years in prison for domestic violence.

Wow, I can't believe this has been kept quiet for so long. I didn't realize he was that much of an asshole, but I also noticed you don't see as much of him as you do Dan Harmon, at least when it comes to Rick & Morty.

Is this not the same guy that once decided the best way to play a drunk character was to actually get drunk at the studio during the recording session, which needless to say was a nightmare for literally everyone else involved? I think I'd call that a red flag for him generally being an obnoxious gobshite.

And now he's (finally) fired. The silence from all concerned up to now has been pretty deafening.

Crazy that they're planning to keep the show going but apparently apart from the voices he wasn't doing much on the show anymore anyway. (That video he did recently where he judged peoples Rick and Morty impressions is going to come in very handy.)

They might have been waiting to see how the trial went. But a bunch of people have come forward since the initial announcement and posted screenshots, including a lot of minors.

Well, this should be quite the (story)trainwreck.

Anyway, what's came out is pretty damning. I don't give Adult Swim any credit though. I sincerely doubt they only just found out about it with the rest of the general public when the incident currently in court happened three years ago and he was charged at the time. I suspect that since Roiland also resigned from his game company at the same time there were a lot of negotiations going on, Adult Swim wanting to cut a deal to keep the show going without him.

Ugh. This news...
Will be weird listening to a different voice actor/actors playing the role of Rick and Morty.

Yeah, it's probably not going to work very well given how much of the show's presentation hangs off of those very specific character performances.

Maybe they should just dump those characters and spin the show off; 'The Beth and Summer (and sometimes Jerry) Show' anyone? Though weirdly this would be the second time this kind of thing has happened to a show Sarah Chalke was on . . .

I'm sure they'll be able to find people to do the voices that are barely indistinguishable. Time will tell.

There's more to it than just mimicking the voices. The whole characterisation and performance is very specifically idiosyncratic. I think if they try for a soundalike they're going to run into an 'uncanny valley' problem, and with such a self-aware show that's going to come off very lame. That means the smart move is to go a whole different direction, either by embracing the change with some wacky sci-fi nonsense, or just remove the characters altogether.

An easy way out is to just have those two abandon a universe leaving everyone behind again, only this time the narrative doesn't keep following them but sticks with the family instead. Another would be for "Evil Rick" to unilaterally wipe out all the other incarnations and just wander off and do whatever. Or Yumyulack randomly wanders past and shoots them both with an "irreversible recasting ray".

The guy who took over the role of Cleveland Brown from Mike Henry on Family Guy is indistinguishable as the character to my ears. It can be done.

Oh wow, I had no idea they recast. Mind you haven't watched a fully Family Guy episode since before 2020, just clips here or there.

And he's gone from Solar Opposites, Koala Man and his games studio now too.

Which all sounds welcome until you think about the number of people who would have known since 2020 and did or said nothing.

He was in a position of power over people, if they had spoken out that could’ve been the end of their careers. John K who created Ren and Stimpy was openly dating teenagers, one of them is on the DVD extras with him on one of the Ren and Stimpy box sets. He got away with it because he was such a legend in the animation community that if anyone spoke up they would be blacklisted for life.
