Ncuti Gatwa is the 15th Doctor

I hear you. I just mean it in the sense that when there are positive tidbits on social media or wherever, I enjoy it. But I don't view it as a negative towards anyone else.

I think you're right. One time I was having an old poster signed by Peter Davison. It was a poster associated with a media tour in the 80s to raise awareness about DW in the US. Upon seeing it, he described a long excruciating series of conventions, lots of driving across the country, lots of autographs, interviews, etc. associated with that grueling tour. I guess JNT kind of dragged them into it. It was almost like seeing the poster triggered a flashback! Although, he happily signed it. I'm sure social media would be a bit easier!

I remember that tour. They stopped in Albuquerque and set up at our Natural History Museum. Our little local fan club was recruited to help set up merch tables and such. Our special guest at that stop was Janet Fielding. She was gracious and a pleasure to meet. I think I was 14 or 15 at the time, so I was a bit awestruck.

But yes. I totally agree. Those mini-con stops basically equated to a "familiarization tour," introducing the show to a wider audience at a local level. The social media of the day.

While there's no denying the publicity side of Doctor Who has been lacking in recent years, it also isn't fair to criticize the actors for not being active on social media. Not to pile on with the "Chibnall failed us" rhetoric that's so en vogue these days, but whatever presence Doctor Who did or didn't have during his era was his responsibility, not Whittaker's.
Again, I'm not criticizing anyone. I didn't even mention any actors. I'm just enjoying what we're getting.

Mind you, social media wasn't really a thing during Eccleston's time as the Doctor, and was only starting to catch on at the tail end of Tennant's.

Absolutely. Smith and Whittaker were already in their mid-20s when the social media boom began. Gatwa would have been a teenager at the time.

I nearly didn't put CE but I was being a completist. There are plenty of old fogies on social media and some younglings who won't go anywhere near some some parts, even Twitter and Insta are passe these days in favour of TikTok.

How many people have shied off social media entirely because of the shit they get?

Chibnall was never the kind of self promoting showman that either RTD or Moffat are, but in his defence, you'd think this was almost something the BBC would have taken out of his hands? He can't have had that much control of the narrative, even RTD didn't have total control (remember the front page picture of Dalek Sec in the Radio Times that RTD said he couldn't veto?)

Not trying to absolve him completely but the BBC have to take some responsibility.

Indeed. Emily Cook would’ve been perfect in that role...except Big Finish already wisely scooped her up after her Lockdown work as a producer and, I think, writer. Ultimately a far better job for her than the potentially thankless job as the face of social media.

Definitely agree that ultimately it's the BBC's responsibility to promote the show effectively. They haven't always done that.

I'd like to think that RTD and Ncuti are having fun with it, but I suppose that could be part of the BBC's PR plan.

The new DWM has hit some shelves nearly a week early due to being printed before Christmas. In fact it seems to have been finished mid-December as it doesn't even have the costume reveal photos in it. There's not a lot of new information as a result though it does confirm that they're not shooting in order and Ncuti's (and Millie's?) first episode won't start shooting until the second production block in February.

I'm (fairly) sure the orange & plaid will grow on me, but I'm not sure about the moustache.

For some reason, the outfit really jars, that 70's-throwback outfit. Not as much because it's 70s-wannabe (of all things). It's over the top, albeit in the subtlety dept. There's admittedly a fascinating twist of irony in that... Maybe two; plaid even in the 70s was outlandish in its own ways and as @Haggis and tatties rightly said, it overwhelms everything. In another bit of irony, even 6's outfit isn't as overwhelming. Never thought I'd get to say that...

Maybe 15's mannerisms will complement the outfit. After all the fan sites showing an array of outfits that seemed Doctorish...

There's no such thing as bad publicity.

Having rewatched POTD last night it's kinda obvious that Vinder was added in after they had to take Jack out of the episode.
I didn't get that impression. If anything, just like in Flux, Vinder didn't really seem to serve any narrative purpose to Power of the Doctor. And I don't see that changing had they used Jack instead.

Production news from the early copies of Doctor Who Magazine

Filming Block One:

Sam Care is the cinematographer (DOP) working with director Dylan Holmes Williams.

Pre-filming locations reconnaissance included a 'sporty location' requiring people to use life jackets, a coastal location was also scouted on 24th November

Block One read-throughs were on 30th November

Principal Photography began December 5th

And it appears they haven't filmed the 2023 Christmas special yet for Ncuti, that's to come in filming block two

Russel's letter this month recalls an early 2021 Zoom meeting with BBC Chief Content Officer Charlotte Moore and then BBC Director of Drama Piers Wenger, and says many plans are still unfurling and that some haven't began yet.

Getting set up for shooting in Cardiff this afternoon. It's giving me a "Years and Years" vibe.

Edit: The actor is Aneurin Barnard, who was one of the leads in the (sadly just cancelled) "1899".
