Might as well give up now, France.
"...Magalí Martínez knew something was off: The seemingly invincible soccer star Lionel Messi was scuffling on the soccer pitch. To her, it looked like he was afflicted with a supernatural curse that has roots in different cultures across history, the “evil eye.”
So Martínez, a self-proclaimed witch and part-time babysitter, got to work. She focused intensely on Messi, began repeating a prayer and drizzled a bit of oil into a bowl of water. If the oil remained dispersed, he was safe. If it collected in the middle, he was cursed.
“It came together like a magnet,” she said. “I knew I wouldn’t be able to cure him alone.”
She went to Twitter and called on her fellow witches across Argentina. “Evil-eye healing sisters, Messi is very affected,” she said. “I need your help.”
A thousand people shared her tweet, with many saying they, too, were witches and would work to protect Argentina’s golden boy.
Argentina has not lost since."

Why even print such garbage?

Speaking of coins, I think it's just dumb that we still use dollar bills, which are fragile and expensive to make.

Way ahead of you! ;)

Although the polymer notes aren't really that fragile, either... as long as you don't put them in the dryer or near any heat source!

For the last few weeks I've actually had paper money in my pocket for the first time in ages. I usually use my debit card or pay online for about 90% of the stuff I buy.

I didn't use paper money for so long during the pandemic I actually forgot my PIN and had to have it reset.

Now there's a few places I need to use it. The once every few years I go to a casino. The local barber shop I started supporting when Supercuts made it fucking impossible to get an appointment. The one or two food trucks I went to when I was in New York. The once a year I buy a lottery ticket.

So basically small local businesses and gambling stuff.

Yeah, both Canada and the UK have 1 and 2 dollar coins and they're awesome. It's only America's resistance to change that makes us keep resisting dollar coins. Yeah, the 1979 ones were too close to quarters, I get that. The ones that came out more recently were totally fine.

I was standing in a line waiting to pay for a coat I was buying for my granddaughter and there was a 4 generation family ahead of me. The little 6 yr old was acting up, driving her mother nuts. Suddenly the mother grabbed her and told her she was taking her to see Santa right then. (Santa and Mrs. Claus were several yards away) The kid went nuts, knowing she was going to be on the naughty list, I guess. The mother dragged her away while the kid hollered and tried to get away. Merry Christmas to that kid.

One of the worst things with horses is the livestock auctions, you can dump horses there in literally any condition and there are no reprecussions. There are horses with huge open wounds, walking around on broken legs, and who are literally walking skeletons, but since they're "livestock" nobody does anything about it.
These are from the last auction Tahlia from the rescue All Seated in a Barn went to back during the first weekend of the month.

Oh, and as a sad note the black and white horse who's gums she shows, died there at the auction. Tahlia was there with him, holding as he died in the pen.
I won't watch that (looks like the link was removed anyway), but I've seen similar videos... they make me sick to my stomach. The horse (and other livestock) rescues are not enough, although they do what they can. The Vet bills can be astronomical though; sometimes euthanasia is the best and only real viable option.
At least regarding racing, too many horses are being bred... if humans are going to breed animals for specific purposes then they should be obligated by law to care for them properly and put the animals' welfare at the pinnacle. When the animal #s are sky high it becomes almost an insurmountable problem due to costs to maintain and support them all. They should be bred to begin with this in mind (one thing I have learned very clearly in this life is that the majority of people out there do not think progressively, or have any real, logical sort of foresight). I actually don't have an issue, generally speaking, with humans using other animals in certain, specific ways, but we usually fail big-time in their aftercare. My tolerance and opinion on this is evolving constantly though and my patience grows thin with people who disregard other species and toss them aside when they "finished" with them...

I would prefer the elimination of ALL physical currency. Coins and bills.

I'm curious what makes you want that. Making ourselves even more vulnerable to a catastrophic event like a massive solar flare, making people even more dependent on credit companies and banks who aim to predatorily place them in debt. Making people completely helpless in some places if they lose their credit card, it gets destroyed, or the account has to be closed due to fraud. Having no physical backup at all seems like a recipe for disaster and corporate subservience.

If some terrorist group or crazed hacker manages to crash the Internet, you may be sorry you didn't have some green for backup. Probably some barter too, preferably everyday items that you don't use but other people might not be able to do without. Because I don't smoke or drink hard liquor, I keep some of both in my emergency kit (the latter doubles as an emergency antiseptic).

That's why some cash is a good thing to have in reserve. The people who are pro cashless have not made a good argument for their side yet

Well, this is absolutely horrifying.

I read an article on the CTV News website about the original E.T. animatronic from the 1982 movie selling for US$2.56 million at auction recently. They included a picture of the animatronic, and, well... it doesn't look quite like the lovable little alien you remember from the movie!
