Surviving the Amazing Race

I wonder if Karla did influence the jury off-camera. I'm just relieved that she didn't win. I guess Gabler is a reasonable choice even though I don't like him.

It's so annoying that there aren't any Ponderosa videos on YT anymore.

I'm disappointed that Owen didn't get even one vote. He should have.

So Season 44 starts in March, and I didn't catch what day the new season of Tough as Nails starts (hosted by Phil Keoghan). I don't really watch that one. My new show of choice in January will be the new season of Fantasy Island, and I've got the box set of Merlin coming from Amazon (got recently hooked on that; I'm always 10 years behind, it seems).

I didn't want Gabler to win but I have trouble being mad about it. Objectively, he handled the questions the best. I think Cassidy played a better game but she sucked at the questions. And Gabler's right that he did manage to stay completely off everyone's radar for almost the entire game.

I tried watching Tough as Nails when it first came out. It kinda weirded me out, "Competitive working class-ness".

Yeah, I don't get the appeal. But I guess it's because my dad knew how to do most of that stuff and did it very well. When it came to building and repair and making things work, there wasn't much he couldn't handle (though he had a lot of trouble with assembling computer desks; he'd have had an easier time if I'd asked him to design it from scratch).

I can see that, but aren't those jobs considered things people do for money because they have to, not things they do because it's their passion?

My dad worked at all sorts of jobs besides trucking and automotive repair, and took commissions for wood furniture.

I wouldn't say welding and plumbing and electrical wiring were his passion, but they were damn useful when he built an addition to the garage and turned it into a granny flat for himself (us living together in the house was a problem due to his nicotine addiction and my extreme smoke allergy). Yes, most people do these jobs for money and not passion, but my dad used them partly for creative purposes when he built his little apartment for himself.

He knew how to do so many things when it came to creating useful things that also have an element of artistry.

The CBS reality show I wish they'd bring back I forget the name of, something like Expidition Extreme. It was basically Amazing Race, only the challenges were harder and it all happened on foot. The winner of the only season was 'Team Gypsy' which would be considered an offensive name now.

Also I'm wondering when the international Challenge edition will air. Will be cool to see Danny and Sarah again.
