Henry Cavill is heading 40,000 years into the future...

Woah 40k is awesome, and very dark universe. Henry Cavill is going to boost this franchise, like he did the Witcher.
More adapations of 40k are always welcome.

I'm not a big enough of a gamer to know or care about this. It's the enthusiasm of other fans that got me to watch 'The Witcher'. Personally, I'd rather see him do some movie stuff.

Is this what he really left "The Witcher" for? We all know how much he loves painting his little toy soldiers.

Starting a discussion in a really condescending tone.. ok

I have played the game for a long time and read the background for even longer ( now more than 25 years) and there is so much meat in that universe you can easily build an entire franchise if someone chose to. There's hundreds of books in that universe and some really great epics going on, chief amongst them the 50+ book series Horus Heresy that deals with THE civil war in the Imperium of Mankind.

Cavill was always open of his love for this universe and was often ridiculed by people who just don't understand it and see it as little toy soldiers. I'm happy that someone who loves the material is pushing for it and has the clout to be involved.

It's true that some fans will take the piss, you can't satisfy everybody but if Amazon is ready to pour serious money into it we could get something really awesome and i would be dying to see Cavill as a superhuman warrior in power armor - think Captain America stuffed into the Iron Man suit and then let loose on the enemy outside of a PG13 rating ;)

No, he's been fairly open that he left the Witcher because the version on screen does not match the character he loves from the games, and he doesn't want to play that version of the character anymore. He tried to steer them to make the character more true to the games, they said no, he walked.

He's about to get a lesson in the reality of the changes that get made when adapting something from one medium to another. I wonder how he's going to enjoy the reaction when things aren't exactly like they are in the game?

Warhammer 40K does not seem to be something very easily adaptable to a 'mainstream' audience and if they 'laser-focus' on a specific story and really 'dumb-down/limit' the depth of the universe and races/powers you might be able to get something, but you'll also probably get a small segment of very vocal fans of the universe complaining.

Considering how hardcore Cavill is for it, I'm not sure he intends to 'dumb down' the universe to appeal to the masses which may not bode well for mainstream audiences.

One thing we can safely say is that it won't be as overwhelmingly white and male as the game universe is. And sadly we all know what sort of reaction that tends to provoke.

Part of the creative process. He will need to develop a thicker skin or get out of the game.

I know little about the 40k universe, save for the very dark and dreary tones, but I do know the lore is thick and ripe for adaptation, as it has several video games, books and source books to build off of.

You would think with 'racial blending' that over the course of another 40,000 years you wouldn't have so many obviously ethnically 'pure' white characters...

Officially a done deal now.

I pity him in a way because any slight deviation from the Lore and the fans will go utterly nuts in a way that makes complaints about "The Witcher" seem tame. And this time he'll be the one people blame.

Geez. Did he steal your girlfriend or kick your dog, or something? Putting aside the very real possibility that he got screwed over by Warner Brothers, who brought him back as Superman only to dump him a few weeks later, we've all seen fans complain about adaptions that aren't true to the source material. Here, an actor actually agreed with us and now you're basically mocking and attacking him?

I'm not a fan of 40K - too grim and unpleasantly nihilistic for my tastes, plus Games Workshop are dicks from what little I know - but I'm completely in favor of Cavill succeeding with this. Not just because I want good things for him and the fans, but more importantly because if Amazon succeeds with this, somebody's gonna look to adapt something similar.

And then my beloved Battletech/Mechwarrior universe might get a real shot. That would get alllll my excitement.

If Amazon can put money in to it, they can make an epic journey like they did with Rings of Power ( i liked it a lot ). And while i am very new to 40k, i love how Dark that universe is.
Also since it is Amazon, i don't expect them to go 1:1 with the source material. I am sure they will corrupt it in some way to fit their narrative, and seeing how it ended for Cavill in Witcher ( if rumors about his departure are true) he might ran in to same problem again.
But either way, Cavill while still popular, would be a big boost for 40k franchise.

It's okey, they wear helmets. But i don't think many cares about races in 40k, at least i didn't get that impression from the games. It's more about the story, than the characters. 40k doesn't have such fixation on specific character journey like Witcher or Halo had. Hence why i don't think we will see same fallout when something is going off the rail with the cannon material.
But then again i am to new to 40k, so i might not know enough to see the full picture.

I only have a passing familiarity with 40K, but what I have read about it makes it sound like this has a lot of potential.
