I really hope it's good, I loved frasier and Cheers, really hope this isn't a crystal skull
I also hope it works out just for the kind of neat experience of basically completing the journey with this character in 3 different phases of his life. Cheers,Fraser and this new show. Someday in the future I also assume Cheers will someday be rebooted and it would be interesting to see him be part of that as well.
They really did strike gold with Frasier, in casting the late John Mahoney and, especially IMHO, David Hyde-Pierce and managing to come up with a show that may even have been more successful than its parent show (though I personally prefer Cheers). When you think of how other spin-off shows like Joey never got off the starting blocks, I do wonder if they’ll be able to replicate that sort of success again.
What I am curious is how they will evolve the character to fit the new setting while keeping him feeling like the same person. You don't want them to just do Cheers and Fraser over with new secondary characters.
I could see Fraser being a little more bitter and broken at first. Maybe he moved because his dad has died and he is still single and lonely. Radio is a dead medium so it makes sense he wouldn't be working in radio anymore. I could see something along the lines of the Bob Newhart show where he would be a therapist that deals with a wacky group of patients. Maybe working at a mental hospital or something. He is helping them deal with their problems as he deals with the issues going on in his personal life.

Is that necessarily true? I would think he could be syndicated (ala Dave Ramsey or some of the conservative talk show hosts who are still out there) or on satellite radio (ala Howard Stern).
Depends on the market. In Canada, the CBC still maintains a fairly strong radio service with original programming, for instance. In fact, I was quite shocked while I was visiting California one year, to find that CBC programming could be picked up.
But yeah, I could see Frasier do something via Satellite Radio or Podcast. I could possibly see him doing an independent blog.
I assume you mean a video blog. A "regular" blog wouldn't make for very good TV.
Depends. I mean, he could be working from home with all sorts of distractions, which would be very Frasier-like, and it wouldn't necessarily have to be a video blog. He could be making observations on certain requested topics while using his family as an example.

I guess nobody was ever going to replicate Leslie Nielsen so I should keep an open mind. But I’ve never seen Neeson be funny; moderately amusing in interviews, but I thought he was the weakest link in The Lego Movie and lacked George Peppard’s charm and twinkle in the movie version of the A-Team.
I know that they cast Nielsen in Airplane because he’d been in the sort of movie they were sending up (he was the captain in The Poseidon Adventure), rather than for his comedy chops, but there’s no doubt that he was a very funny man on and offscreen. So maybe casting a guy who is best known for drama and more recently action will work. But I’m sceptical.
I think that's kind of the point. Leslie Neilsen was a dramatic actor before he took on the role and end up doing lots of comedy. They cast him not for his comedy chops, but for his ability to play it straight. I think they're hoping Liam Neeson will have the same effect. Plus, I think he's at a point in his career where he could use a break from the thriller roles.
Sydney Sweeney has been reported as having the lead in a remake of Barbarella. I'm curious if they can make this work at all in today's environment, it'd be cool if they could keep it sexy and campy but have the character have more agency.
Ok... So I was all ready to hate this when they initially announced it, but I gotta say, the trailer has me interested in this.
Most of the original cast is back and there are elements of the original source material ("In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash"), so I'm definitely checking this out. They could have done better with the title, for sure, but still...

I've never been that big of a fan of Naked Gun films in and of themselves, but I appreciate them for what they are. Thing is, they still had the DNA of Police Squat which, for my money, has some of the best writing ever -- comedy or otherwise. And I actually think that's the part that'll be difficult to recapture, more so than Nielsen himself.
