Spoilers Andor season one

While having the prisoners doing something for nothing, one would expect the Empire to at least attempt to gain free labor about of their prisons.

Though they would need ships to be moving supplies to the prisons to work on these things, and to move the finished product out to wherever it goes.

Or maybe the design is such that they drop a set of prisons someplace with the building blocks, work a series of prisoners for a number of years until all the components are finished, than exterminate the remaining prisoners. Or move them to a new site, and take the exiting block off with all the completed parts to the major works project (Project Stardust) and have the labor force there use the accumulated parts.

Though, aside from the superlaser, the Death Star should be more or less complete by now. Well, the first one anyway.

Maybe, but I hope not. Better to not know.

Better still if they don't even do *anything* and the job of the next floor up is to dismantle these things with the same degree of speed and efficiency. So they're just recycling the same useless objects over and over again to keep the prisoners busy.

While your idea has a delightfully twisted, Kafka-esque quality to it, I gotta agree with the poster that said the Empire wouldn't waste all that free slave labor.

They're building something, but I agree with you that I really hope it's not the Death Star. The Death Star has been done to death at this point and the story doesn't require us to ever find out, anyway.

Be kinda cool if they were building the planetary force field generator that orbits Scarif in Rogue One. Protecting the Imperial blueprint archives on Scarif would be a top priority for the Empire since losing control of that would mean practically everything they've spent years doing when it comes to maintaining their grip on the galaxy would be at risk. Making Scarif - at least from their perspective - practically impenetrable with an orbital force field generator would go a long ways towards preventing that.

I don't mind that the story for "ANDOR" isn't moving fast. But I do mind that the story is moving too slow. And I believe this is due to the narrative being told through loose writing. The writing is NOT TIGHT ENOUGH. Thirteen episodes is proving too much for this story. I could have combined Episodes 1 and 2, Episodes 4 and 5, and Episodes 7 and 8. I could have trimmed at least 3 episodes from this season by now. And why this heavy focus on Mon Mothma? The name of the series is "ANDOR". We're halfway into the series and she still doesn't have a heavy impact on Cassian's character arc. Not yet. Do we really have to wait until the end of the season? Or the series? Will the rest of the series focus mainly on Cassian and Mothma? If that's the case, why bother naming this series "ANDOR"?

Mon Mothma will never, ever meet Andor. Why would she? At best he's a Rebel Intelligence Agent. She's the head of the Rebellion, or at least, a core member.

I hope they never even see each other. Even in Rogue One, he stood outside the briefing. The show is about Andor, yes. But it's also about the formation of the Rebellion. Mon Mothma is central to that.

The pacing is fineeeee. There's some lapses in writing that might had used some adjustment, like, how is Cinta on Ferrix? She squeezes out from a imperial star destroyer overhead to a ISB hotspot okay? The Separatist Ship/Fighting Since I was Six/Republic Officer thing from the first episode too is...hrm.

Mothma literally introduces Cassian to Jyn in "Rogue One." They know each other, they have a relationship (even if it's just a professional one) in the future.

They will both be important figures in the rebellion. They definitely need to meet in this series, but it doesn't need to happen soon. Even Season 2 would be fine.

They clearly planned on Cinta making a separate escape. We didn't need to actually see it happening. It's a month later, it's perfectly fine for the show to skip that unnecessary detail. That's not a lapse in writing.

I have to admit, I got a kick out of getting Andy Serkis and Forest Whitaker in the same episode.
And you really can't go wrong with Stellan Skarsgard and Whitaker sharing some screen time.
Luthen's approach to all this is pretty fucked up, but it does make a certain amount of sense in a really dark, ends justify the means kind of way.
I'm assuming since they're on Ferrix, Vel and Cinta will end up saving Bix from the Empire and recruiting her.
I'm also curious if Cassian's mother was involved in whatever happened at the hotel the Empire has taken over.
I think this episode showed us pretty clearly how devoted Syril is to the Empire, and why I really can't see him going Rebel.
The prison stuff was pretty interesting, just as another look at how things work in the Empire. I have to admit, at first I was wondering if they were building parts of the Death Star, but after reading some of the other posts here, I think it would actually be better if they were just mundane parts of some everyday piece of machinery that nobody really gives a second thought.

What is the point of Mon Mothma having such a major role in this series, if they don't meet? What's the point? I believe they will meet in the future. However, Mothma is not actively the head of the Rebellion at this point in the saga. The series is titled "Andor", but half of it seemed to be about her. Normally, I wouldn't mind if Mothma's character had a major impact on Andor's in this story. But after eight episodes, she hasn't so far. This is another problem I have with this series. And the pacing is not fine to me.

The series is two 12 episode seasons. So 24 episodes in total. Mon Mothma's part could be just the lead up to the Rebellion that Andor will be a part of, and they are setting her background up so that when Andor gets involved her situation is not out of nowhere, but instead means something to the audience . I imagine Andor will be one of the operatives that gets Mon Mothma out of Imperial hand once she directly challenges the Emperor.

I think it shows an interesting contrast in those who are part of the rebellion. And also those at the top in the Empire and those at the bottom.

IDK - I didn't care for Obi-Wan, Imperial Butcher; and I'm honestly bored to death with Andor, prisoner on the Empire in a Widget making shop. Also, how many times does Senator Mon Mothma need to ask about the money she can't access?

The production values and cast are good - BUT - the script, and glacial pace of the story they're telling honestly sucks. I honestly thought they were going to do a time jump after Andor was arrested and more the 'Formation of the Rebel Alliance", as well as the "Empire Turning the Screws on the Galaxy" forward a bit and give us some interesting action; but no.

This is becoming a chore to watch.

In a series titled "Andor"? Why not just call the series "Rebels: The Beginning"? Or any title to hint that this series is about the Rebel Alliance and not just Cassian Andor?

I was wondering, considering how advanced and widespread droids have become in the Star Wars universe, exactly how does the labor economy work? I mean, except of course the penal labor example we saw in the episode, is there substantial demand for human manual labor in this universe? And we have also seen that more advanced droids can also perform more complex tasks, so probably there is a problem of human employment even in the service industry. Usually in Star Wars we see "wretched hive of scum and villainy" or planets like Coruscant where the galaxy's "aristocracy" lives, but on your average republic/imperial planet what exactly do people do for a living? In an incredibly technologically advanced civilization, you can't just put the entire population of a planet into office work.
