Then, that suggests he did not find being in a film/genre of that kind exciting, but its more of a cash grab, despite the fact he does not need another dollar.

I said it's where the excitement is, it's where the audience and the buzz is right now. He returned to Star Wars, he returned to Blade Runner, he returned to Indiana Jones. He seems to be enjoying doing fan favorite roles recently, is it money, ego, gratitude, actual interest, legacy, I can't read his mind but doing a Marvel movie seems inline with his recent roles.

If Disney had their way they would reboot with a younger actor, but they aren't. Ford doesn't want anyone else to play the role. And I suspect the rule that Ford, Speilberg and Lucas had to sign off on new movies was more than just a gentleman's agreement. (Lucas's vote passing to Disney). Regardless of the exact specifics, I just think somehow Ford used his appearance as Han as leverage on Indy V. The timing is perfect, the movie was officially announced the year after The Force Awakens came out.

I agree - reboots with young actors are not what's "hot" now. It's all about full on nostalgia with older actors, but they act totally different than their old versions, leading to internet anger

More a matter of people hate the idea of change. Watching shows amounts to "comfort viewing" and threatening that with any measure of change can cause resistance, at times. The harshest lesson of life is that change is a constant. I don't like it but it definitely how I have experienced life, and I have changed even in the last 5 years from what I used to be.

If you went by Internet reactions alone, you'd think the Kelvin Star Trek films were universally hated, but the first two, at least, were the most profitable Trek films since TMP (corrected for inflation).

That change is viewed as suspect, at best, and potentially dangerous. Perhaps hate is the wrong term, but resistance to change is one I see quite often.

I'm not comfortable with change in my own life, or the loss of things I'm comfortable with. But in the fiction I consume, I enjoy novelty and innovation. Just getting the same thing over and over again gets boring.

I see both sides of the equation. In real life I am not comfortable with change despite its necessity. In fiction, well, that depends on the change. People say it gets boring but I guess I don't suffer from that.

There's change, and then there is CHANGE. What people want is to take the 7 ingredients of the original, remove 2 and add 2 new ones. What they don't want is to remove 5 ingredients and add 5 new ones.

Of course, but the response to change is always the most interesting. In fiction I think even adding one ingredient feels like CHANGE.
