Spoilers Andor season one

And I'm officially out. I wanted to like this. I love Rogue One. But I don't.

I'm bored. There isn't even any creative or interesting worldbuilding happening here. There's angst, and melodrama, but it's just so completely disconnected from Star Wars in any meaningful way that I simply can't bring myself to care for the generic, grimdark staples of supposedly adult sci-fi.

It looks great, visually, sure. But there isn't any there there. Next!

It's the most grounded of the Star Wars stories since Star Wars. It's not going to feel connected in the same way since it's about normal, everyday people. Which, I suppose, could be construed as damning with faint praise since people don't watch Star Wars for the everyday.

I think Palpatine should have small roles or what amounts to a cameo from time to time.

Why? Why would Palpatine appear? He is busy with his own projects and machinations and Dark Side efforts. Vader or Palpatine becoming involved show that the Rebellion is considered a massive threat and at this point it's not. Tarkin and even Admiral Motti were unconcerned about about the Rebels even into ANH. The Death Star was the major turning point of them being galvanized in to a full fledge threat.

In the old EU Palpatine remained secluded inside his Imperial Palace for most of the Dark Times era studying the Dark Side of the Force and seeking ways to become immortal using cloning and other technology. If we never see him in Andor I won't be too stressed about it. We didn't see him in Rogue One, either, and that film's narrative wasn't hurt one bit. The Emperor can be just as big a threat as a looming presence in the background as a visible character on the big or small screen.

I really liked that shot of the TIE pilots getting into their fighters.

Yeah, but I'm still salty they've never show the rear hatch used. Just makes way more sense to me than using the top hatch all the time.

The rebellion must have been of some concern though. To a point where the people at the top would maybe need to create some kind of task force to fight them. I actually think it's going to be that Women Empire officer in the white jacket.

I could see a scene were she briefs Tarkin once in awhile. It might even be interesting to show Palpatine to show just how little he worries about the Rebellion. Create this idea that you got these people working for the Empire that knows they are a threat but the guys at the top could give a shit because their busy doing Jedi stuff and underestimating them.

I'm curious with the way this ended, if he is actually going leave Vel or if he'll decide at the last moment to stick with her?
I have a feeling Nemik's manifesto will be a big part of what turns Cassian into a true Rebel. I can't see them having made such a big deal out of Vel giving to him if wasn't going to be important later.

If I had to guess, Karn hunting down Andor will be its own plot that somehow circles back to the rebellion.

Not showing his presence is enough to communicate the lack of concern. Again, Palpatine is not necessary or interesting. He is a detached presence from the day to day operations of the Empire.

I think Palpatine should have small roles or what amounts to a cameo from time to time. Mostly though if you want to show some insight from the very top it should be his chief of staff or something like that. Which I guess would be Tarkin.
What I would do if I was making the show is to have the final scene be someone come in and brief him about the new Rebellion that is getting started and making a dent.

Showing Tarkin, Vader, or Palpatine would be completely out of place in the show, it's not about the higher ups, it's about the low level people, who are dealing with the small scale issues, not the galactic level threats that concern people like them.

The idea that when you go into season 2 you know the Empire knows they are a threat and will be taking more extreme measures to stop them. Before that they barely acknowledged them. Then don't show those him again until next year in another small cameo.

But at this point the Rebellion is not a threat, I'm not sure but I don't think there even is a unified Rebel Alliance at this point. I think we're still at the point where they were a loosely connected collection of small cells, who were mostly doing things like the Alkhani heist, and the stuff we saw the Ghost crew doing in the early seasons. They don't really become a bigger threat that would require "extreme measures" until Scarrif, and the destruction of Alderaan and the Death Star.

This is about 5 BBY. Aldhani is one of the earliest strikes by the Rebellion and Alliance founders like Bail Organa and sectional leaders like Enfys Nest are still remaining in the shadows and limiting their visible actions if not still completely unnoticed. The Rebellion won't truly become a force the Empire will worry about for another year or so based on how it reacts to Kanan, Ezra and the Ghost crew and their adventures in that series.

I see them building up to those people in later seasons. Mothma *is a senator, and she must deal with some of them. Plus, the more serious the Rebellion gets the more we might see higher military personnel having to deal with it. Not as main characters, but peripherally at least. Might be cool to see some of the admirals/moffs from the movies as things start to build.

From what we saw in Rebels, when a rebel cell starts to be a problem for the locals, they call in the ISB. Usually that is enough. Unless there is a Jedi. Then the Inquisitors come. If it continues to be an Issues, the local Moff or Grand Moff will arrive with some of his personal fleet to deal with the situation. If more issues arise, or more Rebel cells present themselves, Darth Vader is an option (though he's usually only interested if there is a Jedi). If things continue to be a problem: Grand Admiral Thrawn's fleet is issued to the problem. That is usually enough. The only time the Emperor will get involved is if the Rebels interfere with one of his own Sith related projects. Though he might still appear in the Senate or on Empire Day, but not as a problem...just background.

Andor is likely only an ISB level threat for most of his career. Especially if he's mobile and not linked to a specific cell/planet for longer than the mission. At least not until the formation of the Rebel Alliance in 2 BBY. After that be might rate a Moff or an Admiral level threat....but he is not a Jedi, so no Inquisitor is going to care.

Personally I think this is the best Star Wars has been seen Empire. And I was initially one of the people wondering i the heck there needed to be a series focused on Cassian Andor.

Not as good as The Mandolorian just yet. It is better than The Last Jedi though which I think was the shows main goal. To do what that movie wanted to do and that is do a deeper more edgy version of Star Wars but failed in terms of quality.

We got a couple "slow" eps that focused on the heist preparation and getting to know our characters. And this ep was a good payoff. We get the heist and some good action. I did not predict Skeen's betrayal. I am sad for Manifesto Boy dying. I liked his character.

I was expecting him to die. They made him too likeable. I didn't expect that from Skeen either. Cool stuff though.

I watched this episode a day late. I thought it was quite thrilling. And the visuals of the Eye phenomenon were nice.

Book of Boba Fett struggled at the end but enjoyable most of the time. B
Obi-Wan Kenobi hit and miss but emotionally resonant. B+
