Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I thought the spaces between my shuttlecraft models looked a bit empty, so I made some similarly sized display pieces...

Yeah the huge refit constitution saucer (with phaser banks no less) throws me off. We've seen starship designs that seem like successors to older designs (Constellation class/Stargazer class), or even designs that might have taken inspiration from older designs (Excelsior class/Obena class), but I'm still trying to wrap my head around this new Titan. It's like seeing a contemporary of the Sovereign class that looks like that ship, but then randomly has a 2260s Constitution class deflector dish design instead of one we would associate with the late 24th century Starfleet vessels.
It's a modified (with permission) version of this fan design which is from the TOS movie era. The showrunner really loved the design and had it slightly updated for the 25th Century.

His in-universe logic for it looking Retro is because Starfleet was feeling nostalgic for the old age of exploration.

Yes, it is a fine design. It reminds me of the glory days of my youth downloading mods for the Starfleet Command series and Bridge Commander. I can even live with the show-runner's explanation about "nostalgia". It's just the phaser banks though. It seems like outdated tech.

They should have hired him to make all the ships from DSC season 1. He at least seems to understand the concept of design lineage.
Maybe they can still grab him for Strange New Worlds.

The ship has phaser strips as well. You can see them more clearly in the newest trailer.

They might serve a purpose, maybe point defense blasts, they do shoot faster than solid beams.

I think that was less on the designers and more on Fuller who wanted Starfleet flat and with squared nacelles and Klingon weird and alien.
Yes, it was a deliberate move in Disco S1 for a new rebooted look. Klingon ships were designed by people chosen intentionally with no prior knowledge of Trek, for example.
