DC Comics Ongoing Discussion

The only "pants" outfit for Kara anybody's come up with yet that I actually like is the one from Injustice 2.

This one is tolerable, though (at least when it's drawn by Mora, which is sort of cheating).

Injustice 2 is still some of my favorite DC character design work.

I know Natasha's been a supporting character in Action Comics the least year or so but where's John Henry Irons? He's as much a part of the Superman Family as anyone.

I think John Henry only puts on the suit in immediate emergencies while primarily working as an engineer and science consultant. It's also worth noting that all the members of the Superman Family wearing these new jackets are of the younger generation, with Kara and Natasha probably the oldest of the group, being somewhere between 18 and 25 (though it's not been that long that Kara still lived with her adoptive parents in the Rebirth era). It might just be that both Clark and John Henry feel they're set in their respective looks.

Announced at NYCC, there's going to be a new Superman ongoing series written by Joshua Williamson with art by Jamal Campbell.

Also, starting with #1051, Action Comics will become an anthology again, with three stories per issue. Main story continues Phillip Kennedy Johnson's run. The second feature, titled "Lois & Clark 2: Doom Rising" will go back to Jon Kent's earlier years, with Dan Jurgens returning as writer, with his L&C artist Lee Weeks also returning. The third feature, at least for the first three issues, will be a Power Girl story by Leah Williams and Marguerite Sauvage.

Meanwhile, the ongoing "Son of Kal-El" series will be ending with #18, but will be followed by a six-issue mini series by returning writer Tom Taylor titled "Adventures of Superman", which will see Jon confront Ultraman after his torture on Earth-3. Earth-2's Val-Zod will also appear in the series.

I'm enjoying Son of Kal-El, but I just can't get behind calling him Superman. I wish he'd just go by Jon or something.

I would really like the Superman title to return to its original numbering at some point. Shame about the Son of Kal-El series; I was really starting to enjoy it.

Honestly, I wish both Marvel and DC would just go back to original numbering for all their titles. I hate the constant relaunches.
Does DC do the current and legacy numbering like Marvel does? I quite like the current and legacy numberings both appearing

No they don't. Currently, a handful of series have gone back to legacy numbering. Superman and Batman are two series that also deserve this treatment with both having over a hundred (or 200 in Batman's case) issues published since they dropped their legacy numbering.

Sorry for the double post but on the full image of that Superman Family promo, there are two kids at the bottom on either side of Clark--anybody know who they are?

I thought the picture was cropped weirdly, makes sense they wanted to keep that surprise. They're labelled "twins", no other names. I think they might be the kids from Warworld.

January solicits are out.

- Lazarus Planet, appears to be the smaller post-big-Crisis-Crossover event. I do like a lot of the writers and characters involved. As my economic situation is still in flux, I'm gonna have to say, despite general interest, I may only get this as a trade later on.
- Batman: The Adventures Continue returns for season 3. This time around, I'm gonna trade-wait this.
- Goddammit, Legends of Gotham written by Andy Diggle and co-starring Black Lightning and Katana, this feels really tempting. If this was a one-shot, I'd buy it, if it was a mini-series I'd trade-wait, but this isn't marked as either, nor is it marked as an ongoing, in which case I'd probably have to ignore it. Dammit, DC, please tell us this kind of stuff.
- Gonna pass on the Valentine's Day special.
- The new Action Comics anthology is 48 pages strong and still holds the $4.99 cover price, which is very nice. I was afraid it would raise its price with the new format.
- DC Power, anthology special for Black History Month. Tempted, but at this point I gotta say no.
- Dammit, does the new Flash story arc really need an over-sized special one-shot companion to the regular book? Well, okay, but just for that, I'm not gonna spend the four bucks on the Flash #123 facsimile.
- Is it me, or does the new Dark Knight Detective volume have a lower cover price ($24.99) than most recent previous volumes? Is DC trying to push prices down to get more readers? Hard to believe, but I'm tempted.
- Speaking of tempting, DC Universe by Dwayne McDuffie. Man, I'd love that, but at 40 bucks, it really depends on my financials at the time this is released.

I might have to get the DC's Harley Quinn Romances one-shot just for this variant cover:

My wife likes it, too. ;)
