DC Comics Ongoing Discussion

Full November solicits are up.

Aside from the already talked about:

- A new Batman/Joker mini-series. Yawn. Story & Art by Marc Silvestri. Oh?! Hm. Intrigued. But I'll probably still hold off until any reviews tell me whether or not to get the eventual collected edition.
- The New Golden Age, one-shot leading into the new JSA ongoing. Guess this is required reading.
- Jaime Reyes version of Blue Beetle also gets a new six-issue mini-series. Since there are already the two new launches of JSA and Stargirl, plus a couple of one-shots like the above, I'll have to pass on this.
- Wildstorm anniversary sees not just the Waller vs. Wildstorm miniseries mentioned by @The Realist above, but also a new WildCATs ongoing, an anniversary anthology one-shot (with some reprints from the hardcover anthology from the last celebrated anniversary), and a Grifter Holiday Special one-shot. The only Wildstorm books I read back in the day were Warren Ellis' Stormwatch and The Authority, so I'll probably pass on all of these.
- Superman: Kal-El Returns Special, I guess they have to milk this for all it's worth. But I'm easy, it's a Superman book, it has Mark Waid and Marv Wolfman attached to it, it's a one-shot, so, yes, I'll definitely get this one.
- John Stewart: Emerald Knight, one-shot following the previous Green Lantern series depicting Stewart's apotheosis. Yeah, I'll get that.
- Dark Crisis continues with the main title, the Young Justice tie-in mini, the "Worlds Without A Justice League" one-shot (this time it's Batman's turn), and two further spin-off one-shots, The Dark Army and War Zone.
- Three annuals, but they're all Bat-titles, so doesn't affect me/my wallet.
- Nubia & the Justice League, one-shot featuring Nubia joining the JL. Is that before they all died at the beginning of Dark Crisis? Or afterwards, when they're all inevitably resurrected? Anyway, I got all the previous Nubia books, so might as well.

So Flashpoint ends with the "Golden Age"? I wonder what other books will come from this concept?

November has a lot of "one shots" that I'm interested in. The Superman story, Justice League, Golden Age, and the return of Green Lantern. I am going to pass on those Dark Crisis tie-ins other than what I'm already getting. If it looks like they actually contain something significant to the main story I'll pick them up later.

My personal fave cover is this one, by Nathan Szerdy:

Though this one by Michael Allred is pretty sweet, too:

And you always gotta love Steve Lieber:

December solicits are out.

Not that much noteworthy here. Dark Crisis is ending, Batman/Spawn crossover might be something I'd be up for. Action #1050's synopsis makes it pretty clear that at least Kal-El comes out of Dark Crisis alive (what a surprise), it also promises a confrontation between Superman and Lex Luthor that will change everything (basically, I'm paraphrasing). Another Tom King reimagining of classic heroes that I'm happy to pass on. A one-shot featuring new stories with the Stan Lee versions of the DC characters (you all remember those, right?), might be nice. Second Milestone Compendium, oof, that's a fifty bucks I'm not sure I'll be able to spend. An 80th Anniversary hardcover for Aquaman, most likely won't get this one.

To be honest, I'm not sure whether my financial situation will allow me to get even those books that are currently among my regular monthlies. My employer is going through bankrupcy, and while I will definitely have my wages for the rest of the year, I still have to find a new place of work. Chances are good, but not 100%. Add to that the quickly rising costs of living we're all feeling currently.

Looks like the Superman family (aside from Kal-El himself) will trade their capes for new uniform jackets:

Wouldn't be surprised if there'd be licenced apparel in the near future.

Can't say I much care for 'em (though Kara's is at least an improvement over the granny getup she's been sporting since Woman of Tomorrow).

I generally like Superman outfits with capes but I am really liking those jackets. The shoulders and all make it work together quite well.

I think it works well for Conner, because he already wore a jacket anyway. Jon is okay, as well, but probably because his look hasn't been so ingrained, yet. Kara's already gone through the recent change of wearing pants and no skirt. Kong Kenan, well, he hasn't been around for a long time, and only recently showing up again.
Putting a hoodie on Steel is just stupid, though.

Edit: I just noticed Conner wearing a bag on his hip like a holster. :wtf:
