What grade would you give the Marvel Cinematic Universe? (Ever-Changing Question)

Huh, that's a surprising development. I wonder if we'll ever find out why they made that change.

According to the article, "Sources say the studio was committed in getting the story told the right way and in that process realized that a feature was better suited for the project." I can see that happening. Maybe they realized they needed a feature budget/schedule for the amount of FX work and action required, or maybe they realized the story worked better at 2-3 hours than a longer miniseries. Or maybe they just thought it was such a cool or major story that it deserved the feature treatment.

Maybe because they're having troubles getting Blade off the ground?

Ah yes. Speaking of that. GRAINS OF SALT

Insider Jeff Sneider claims that production of Blade 2023 is very troubled, more then just the director leaving.
  • Script is only 90 pages long
  • Said script only features two action scenes considered "lackluster".
  • Feige is apparently "too spread thin" to directly help with the production.
  • Mahershala Ali is getting increasingly frustrated with the process.

True. Civil War all hinges on the biggest examples of Plot Convenience 101 / coincidences ever committed to film.

That being?

You want real plot contrivances, look at the Raimi Spider-Man movies.

Ultimately, it only served to shoehorn Spider-Man into the MCU and have the Avengers split (thus, less effective) when Thanos and his minions come to earth

Both very important things. Much more important than a self-contained Captain America adventure would've been.

It doesn't mean that to me, because I recognize that different people can make different choices that are equally valid, or have different preferences that are equally valid.

But I wasn't referring to you or those who agree with you. I was referring to myself and anyone who might share the same or similar feelings. Why do you think I'm questioning the validity of your opinion or those who share it?

But I wanted a Captain America movie. I didn't want an Avengers film DISGUISED as a Captain America film with Iron Man as the co-lead and topped with an inconsistent plot.

I don't agree with you. And I don't have to look at the Rami films. As far as I'm concerned, "Captain America: Civil War" featured some major plot contrivances and signaled the real decline of the MCU. At least for me.

My thoughts exactly.
Was so disappointed that it wasn't a more Captain America & crew focused film and basically and Avenger movie and Iron Man 3.5 in everything but name.

Hoping Cap 4 New World Order is more akin to theWinter Solider, rather than Civil War.

I don't. I'm offering an alternative perspective in hopes that you'll give it some thought. Not everything is a fight. People share differing points of view, not to pit them against each other in some kind of cage match, but so that people on both sides will listen to each other and open their minds to alternative ways of thinking beyond their own. We're on this BBS to share our different points of view, not to battle with each other. Or at least we should be.

Rumor has it Marvel wants to recast General Ross with Harrison Ford for the Thunderbolts movie. William Hurt passed away earlier this year.

Harrison Ford is eighty years old. As much as I like the idea, this movie is 2-3 years away; Ford would be in his early eighties by the time of filming. I think they should go for someone younger. Unfortunately, I can't think of anyone at the moment.

CA4's director--Julius Onah describes the film as:

“...a paranoid thriller”/

...while others have mentioned its political leanings. Add the return of the Leader (from The Incredible Hulk movie), and it gives a strong indication that it will take more from The Winter Soldier than the other Cap or MCU films. I hope it turns out that way and finally restores that kind of serious, provoking content to the big screen Cap side of the franchise.

Costner? Clooney? Quaid? Cranston? Malkovich? Does Liv Tyler's age have to be taken into account?

It honestly signaled my disinterest in the MCU overall and I did not revisit it until a year or so after Endgame debuted, and that was to watch Black Widow, not Endgame. And then watched Endgame. But, Civil War introduced conflict and disparity for no other reason that to set Iron Man and Captain America against each other, something that was tiresome in the Avengers. Having a whole movie about it made it just disappointing and uninteresting.

I know few share my opinion but it's one that has really stuck with me over the years.

They could always get young 78-year-old whippersnapper Sam Elliott.
Sam Elliott or no one at all. This is a no-brainer.

Behind the scenes featurette on Werewolf by Night, which will be dropping in about a week.
