The Animals That Aren't Dogs or Cats Thread

He's so cute. Hedgehogs are one of the few domesticated animals I have almost no experience with. I think I might have held one, once ages ago, but that was it.
Toads are cool.

Where I grew up we had a small lake at the end of the street teeming with toads, fish, crayfish, bullfrogs, turtles.

We'd catch and keep toads all the time, and I even grew my own once from a bunch of eggs we got right after mating season.

Ours were bufo americanus in various colors

There's this big pond that forms after it rains that I ride my bike past, and the morning after we got out first big monsoon rain, the frogs were so loud they were almost deafening. When my mom and I walked down that way with the dogs a few days later, there were dozens of teeny, tiny little baby frogs all over the sidewalk. They were still out when I went by later on my bike, and I still feel guilty, because I think I might have run one over. I was trying to dodge between two or three, and just as I swerved one jumped in front of my tire and I heard a popping noise. :weep:

I remember a time that baby leopard frogs (IIRC) were all over the place around our driveway a block away from the lake. All the culvert pipes under our driveways drained down to the lake, so they must have traveled back up when it was wet.

Pretty sure there were salamanders down there too. The lake was originally more of a swampy area they dredged and fed from another lake across town. It was murky, had reeds growing at the edges and was lined with black muck. Damn I miss those days.

Box Elder bugs I think, mostly harmless. We haven't had an invasion of those in several years.
Yes, those are box elder bugs. We have a box elder tree in the front yard, so we have these bugs. Oh, boy, do we have these bugs. Short of cutting the tree down, there is no way to get rid of them. Given that they are harmless, I just evict them from inside he house but otherwise ignore them.
