I got the Audio book of Second Self by Una McCormack. I've been listening to the audio book and it's nice that Raffi and are Elnor having an adventure together. Raffi is contacted by a former Romulan agent and the mystery deals with something that happened on a planet during the last days of the Dominion war.I don't want to say too much right now. If there's a major spoiler I'll post it under spoiler tags.

Let’s make it spoilery. We can use spoiler tags,

I haven’t listened to it because I’ve taken a break from audio productions. Are there any Starfleet ships in it?

I would suggest that if the OP wants to keep the thread (relatively) spoiler free, that's probably OK. If the book is out now, we'll probably have an official review thread before too long, and it's always a spoiler thread. It would probably be a little redundant to have two spoiler discussion threads for the same book.

Rios is Captain of the Star Gazer and his science officers are helping Raffi trying discover why a strange place on the planet Ordith blocks computer signals and then shields go up and they lose track of Raffi ,Elnor and the Zahar and the Bajoran intelligence is looking for
Garak they're unhappy about something he did and the Cardassians are upset and spies are looking for him.Lots of people want to track him down
We get to see more of Raffi's back story from the last days of the Dominion war and how Starfleet officers on the U.S.S. Grania are watching the news about what happened on Cardassia the Dominion destroyed Cardassian cities. From the Ds9 finale What we leave behind.

Just started. If this is a Raffi novel, will not have much interest in it.

Are you thinking of No Man's Land? We do have a spoiler/review thread for that one, if you're interested! (Granted, that might not be what you're referring to, since I'm not sure seven months counts as old! ;) )

It looks like multiple people are now reading this, and no one had posted a review thread yet, so I went ahead and put one up.

I'm really glad we're getting stuff about the Dominion war and the fact we finally get more back story about Starfleet with the Cardassians and the Romulans and events that happened on Ceradad. There's alot of flashbacks in this book.
We get to see Garak was sent on a secret mission by Enabrin Tain when he's in the Obsidian order during the Occupation and the fact at one time Ceradad had been a Bajoran Colony and how it's past is going to be a major part of unraveling a mystery in the book
The story has been really intriguing so far.

This book is more about the last days of the Dominion war and about post traumatic stress everyone deals with in wartime .Good things saving Cardassian Civiilans and bad things that happened in the aftermath on the planet with the Cardasians and the Starfleet and the Romulans is well written.
The story with Garak takes unexpected twists and turns when it comes to the Bajorans and actions he took during the occupation and it certainly wasn't what I expected. And all I'll say is Wow! I didn't expect what happens to Garak.
You have sympathy for the characters and what happens to them the in this book.

I'm only getting started on this one, but I was really happy in the first Picard novel that Dr McCormack discussed the Romulan crisis in the context of recent Cardassian history and I'm happy to see her building on that concept here and more generally making Picard feel more situated in the post-90s-era context.

Her role in starting a new imprint devoted to feminist sci-fi is also really cool and a couple of those titles look interesting too.

You'll get alot more of this back story of both the Bajorans and the Cardassians history in this book and how it ties in all the story back to the Deep space tv shows and how complex it is .Una does a great job the Picard characters getting more character developement for Raffi and Elnor and Sokhar the Romulan spy.

So I decided to go brave the virus and pick this up today! Now the hard part becomes finding time to actually read it!

Bit of a sad trip, though. This was the first time I had been to the bookstore in a number of months (I think the last time was just after Revenant had come out). Found out that their Star Trek "section" was now down to a total of 16 books. And that's not *titles*; that counts multiple copies of the same book separately.

IIRC, this is all that they had:

    A Contest of Principles (2)
    Shadows Have Offended (1)
    Revenant (1)
    Moments Asunder (2)
    The Ashes of Tomorrow (1)
    Oblivion's Gate (1)
The Biography of Mr. Spock (2)
    The Dark Veil (1)
    Rogue Elements (1 HC & 1 TPB)
    Second Self (3... now 2! :D)

Kind of sad that we have more shows than ever now, but the book section is just a shadow of its former self. :(
