Keanu Reeves and director Francis Lawrence returning for Constantine sequel, written by Akiva Goldsman who is also co-producing along with Bad Robot.
The "less competition" argument was made decades ago as every major studio was bought and absorbed into other companies yet creativity did not die. Fearmongering is no substitute for a coherent, rationality-based argument. So once again, you are talking out of your ass.
It will be a cheap movie that if they play their cards even semi-correct, will net them a decent chunk of change. DC, nostalgia, Keanu, a cult film with a built in fanbase, it ticks too many boxes.
One of my favorite DC films. Glad to see a sequel and more Keanu. If it's a cheap move, it's fitting my budget.
There had been some rumblings, I think Keanu mentioned some interest recently. Not sure about Goldsman being involved but we'll see.
I don't think that Constantine was a very good film, and it had little to do with the comic character, but I like Keanu and loathe the comic version of John Constantine, so I'd be up for a sequel.
I remember I was not a fan. Critics panned it pretty hard with 46% rotten but 72% Audiences like it. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/constantine I am going to revisit the original, make sure it is as bad as I think it was... ETA: Currently included on HBOM and NETFLIX.
There seems to be a growing consensus that the Constantine movie was a bad Hellblazer adaptation but a good horror movie on its own terms -- for example: https://www.tor.com/2018/06/01/thats-called-pain-get-used-to-it-constantine/ I found it okay when I watched it, though I'm not really a horror fan.
No particular DC news here but it’s a fairly comprehensive history of the whole sorry Ezra Millar saga https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2022/09/inside-ezra-millers-dark-spiral-messiah-delusions
I never read the Hellblazer/Constantine comics so I can't comment on how true the adaption is, though Ive heard the version that became a part of the Legends Of Tomorrow was more true. In any case, I'm a big fan of Constantine the movie, so I'm curious about a sequel
