What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I don't know. I think we're already seeing a significant shift on the amount of hate the Abrams films get and the streaming era series will likely follow in time, even though there will always be some individuals who never let go of the hate (just as there are some who never let it go of it in regards to TNG, DS9, etc).

It's not about how the franchise changes from one era to the next, it's just purely about how new stuff is. The newer it is the more haters it gets. Ten years from now, Abrams trek will be just as much 'old trek' as the 90s era and the streaming shows will be much less controversial than they are now.

Nenya's going to be (actually already is!) one of the ones stuck at 2017 and won't let it go. Those heels are dug in pretty well. His posts feel like a throwback to five years ago.

Yeah I’m kinda salty about being called a racist for not liking a badly written CW show. I don’t consider anything after 2005 to be Star Trek but SNW is the closest we’ll be getting until the right people are in charge.

Here's one I've mentioned before, but it's been a while. Trek should have ended with TWOK. It would have been a glorious close to the franchise.

It was. It was everywhere back in 2017. “Fans” were calling people who called out the horrible writing every name under the sun. They sure knew how to silence critics with their name calling. Right out of the playbook.

I'm the first person here to criticize shows like DSC for some of their creative choices. We're not all robotic yes men here kissing Kurtzman's butt because he brought back small screen Trek after a 12-year absence. We just don't see things as a disaster any more than week after week of tiresome, cookie cutter VOY episodes between 1995 and 2001 made me fear for Trek's fate then. Or so many disappointing episodes in Season 2 of ENT had me worried for the franchise.

Trek sometimes gives us crap no matter who's running the franchise. Welcome to how entertainment works.

If they could just do a Star Trek show that I like that would be great. SNW was close but it’s a very simple show with simple messages. It’s a good imitation.

I just miss when Star Trek was for a select kind of people and I don’t care how that makes me sound. Every fandom gets infiltrated and ruined in the end. Maybe I need to watch fan productions or something.

Not sure how being a "life long fan" relates to being or not being racist. Trek attracts all kinds of people for different reasons. Some of those people are racist. Sad, but true.

I'll go one step further: TWOK should have ended with Spock's death and no resurrection out. I loved IV and VI, but the story TWOK was telling is so much powerful if Spock's sacrifice is final and Kirk truly has to deal with the consequences of command.

TOS was made in the 1960s for people who wanted a color sci-fi TV adventure series with a more adult bent than Lost In Space or the kiddie sci-fi of the 1950s. THAT'S who it was made for. We just happened to join those viewers along the way.

What does it matter whether you're a "lifelong" Star Trek fan. That doesn't make you any better than somebody who just saw their first episode yesterday, nor entitled to anything.
We don't know what arguments you presented, nor do we really know why you don't like New Trek, you just keep saying "it's bad".

There just isn’t any place online to discuss Star Trek freely anymore in my opinion. Reddit is totally gone in that regard. I posted my “controversial” opinion and it’s just dismissed as “old good new bad”. Nu-trek has some serious, fundamental flaws with it. What has Alex Kurtzman been involved with that has been good? Alex Kurtzman is in charge of Star Trek and it shows. I don’t know what to tell you if you can’t see the differences between 1966-2005 and 2009 to now.

It’s not bad because it’s new, it’s bad because it’s bad.
