Playmates Toys

When it comes to Star Trek and toys I always think of Micro Machines.
I purchased those in the 90s and perhaps in the future I need to put them together and take a picture.

I'm livid that my local Walmart and Target stores don't have the new playmates star trek toys in stock when everywhere else does! I asked a target employee last night about the Enterprise, and he couldn't even find it in the system! How are you guys finding these!? Soooo lucky! :wah:

My local shops don't even get most of the Star Wars stuff. I'm not holding my breath on getting the Star Trek items. I do use the app and there is another website that can be helpful too. But, Target and Walmart's inventory management system is very backwards. It sounds like it only looks within the store, and in the warehouse or surrounding areas. It strikes me that if it isn't part of the stock model then it won't show up. Sucks.

All the figures and the phaser are up on Amazon. Most everything is available for shipping right now. As for brick and mortar…it’s always been like this, some parts of the country get them before the others. It’s just the way stuff ships.

Okay, so... TWOK Spock's gloves look ridiculously oversized like some kind of Disneyland novelty mittens.

I like the idea of gloves accessories that fit over the figure's hands, but I think switchable hands would have been better here. Because other than this, the figure looks pretty good.

The gloves were perfectly normal-sized in the original concept/render/whatever you call it of the packaging, which is still on the Entertainment Earth listing: https://www.entertainmentearth.com/...han-captain-spock-5inch-action-figure/pl63149

I wonder if the render just used the assets that were pre-rendered, but required some retooling. Catwoman figure from Playmates has similar gloves possibly for ease of use. I remember the baseball glove Jake figure had being quite annoying.

^ That must be the case.

Here are some visuals so readers of this board can see the differences right next to each other.

Original concept (as shown on Entertainment Earht):

Yes, the gloves in the movie were on the bigger size when it comes to gloves. But not that big. :guffaw:

I don't think they are tooooo oversized, but obviously it's a toy. I knew they'd look like oven mitts when I saw the render, as they didn't seem to be doing removable hands.

Yeah, clearly swappable hands would have been the way to go.

But production and cost wise, this was probably the cheaper way. Especially since these aren’t exactly “high end” collectibles.

Star Wars Vintage Collection has some figures with swappable heads or hands for a just couple bucks more than this. I think it would be worth it for better-looking gloves, and perhaps one or two more accessories.

Jeebus, those gloves look like the hands on the TV version of the Valkyrie Battroid from Macross: big, white, and cartoony looking.

I like that they're commemorating the Ceti eel, of all things, in that TWoK 40th anniversary logo.

Also, just noticed the figure comes with the TMP tricorder.

Well, the prop was used in ST 3 as well :)

Possibly, though even Diamond Select didn't have many accessories either and the gloves feel similar enough.
