Pass me the Freedent.
I’m 41 and have watched Star Trek all my life. It no longer holds a place of reverence in my heart because to me, it ended in 2005. I hate seeing Trekkies turned into Star Wars fans who like everything just because it says Star Wars.
We used to have better written shows for the most part. Now we have a series that mocks Star Trek and it’s fans. SNW is a close imitation but it’s pretty distilled and watered down.
I don’t think money matters companies anymore especially with Blackrock throwing money around. And where can a person encourage others to not watch a show without being banned? The franchise is just a Potemkin village at this point.
Well, that's a difference for me. Star Trek is special but never had a place of reverence. There is no media property that commands my reverence.I’m 41 and have watched Star Trek all my life. It no longer holds a place of reverence in my heart because to me, it ended in 2005.

Why would they? This is like expecting a band to sound like their debut album after 30 years. It's impossible.Star Trek was it for me. I can’t stand most tv now. I was just hoping they would spare Star Trek but they didn’t.

That’s a good point. Star Trek was different. Now it’s generic to me.My advice is to tune out the newer stuff that isn't to your liking; there have been more than a few franchises that I've had to step away from because the modern directions they took ran contrary to what made them stand out/unique.
Eddie, are you by chance related to Paul Hardcastle?

Oh, see NOW I get the reference. Can you tell Paul Hardcastle isn't an everyday name for me?![]()
Always nice when the Get Off My Lawn crowd stops by…

Been doing that since Ds9 and Voyager. My advice is to tune out the newer stuff that isn't to your liking; there have been more than a few franchises that I've had to step away from because the modern directions they took ran contrary to what made them stand out/unique.
The latter I think. Streaming services need to keep churning out content to keep people subscribed.Hot take time. Everything's about nostalgia. Remember Star Trek? That's modern Trek. Remember Avengers? That's current-day Marvel.
The stories are almost all reheated leftovers, we've seen it all before over the past 56 years. It's nice comfort viewing, it's diverting. But is it must-see? Paramount get my money every month, so they'll be happy. It's fine. I like it. But when was the last time you thought, holy shit I NEED to know what happens next? Disco S4 and Picard S2 were steps down from previous seasons. Is it still art, or is it becoming what I feared, content for the sake of contractual obligation?
I haven't felt that way in nearly 15 years regarding most TV shows, save for a couple hear and there, none of which were SF related. So, I think that says something about me than current TV.But when was the last time you thought, holy shit I NEED to know what happens next?
I've been dead for years then.Star Trek died the day it went into syndicated reruns. They cut at least four minutes of content out of each episode. We all died that day.
