Hi again, I've got my trekkie groove back after burning out on it and I'm back modelling stuff, so I thought it would be a good idea to share it with a trek art forum. Over the past few months I've dusted off some old models that I thought could do with a bit more refinement. I've also worked on some other stuff that I didn't get around to the first time round, most notably the bridge interior model. The original art thread is here: https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/reliant-an-early-earth-starship.292329/ To illustrate, this is the first version, done years ago now. I've found it rewarding to use this ship model to gradually improve my techniques over time: Reliant exterior redone: One more shot with moodier lighting: Here's the shuttlepod redone. The model is about ready, still got to do the texturing though: Interior bridge set, again the modelling is more or less complete, but needs texturing: Finally some planetary stuff. I think I'll be doing more of this kind of stuff over the next few weeks, to keep things varied and hopefully stave off creative burnout: Hope you like the images so far!
Hi publiusr! Ah yes, my kitbash fleet! Definitely something to look at again if I want to make a fleet shot!
That is without a doubt gorgeous..... I'm not one of those guys that keeps going on and on when they see a design and say 'this should have the Enterprise instead of the NX01' because I love that design. But man, this somehow really looks as if it should have been the first Warp 5 ship that humanity sends into deep space.
LOL. "8.47 LY and counting". You should add "If you can read this check your dosimeter" Very good greebling and texture
Loving the greebling and retro feel of this beast. It would be awesome to see such an old vessel on screen!
The quality of the texturing and details on your revised Reliant model are envy-making. Gorgeous. This looks like a model I would fully expect to see on a TV show or movie.
I was wondering if anyone would catch that Easter Egg haha! When I'm next working on the model I'll stick your dosimetry quote near the nuclear thrusters. I'm glad you like the redone version. The previous versions were just asking for a little bit of extra detail, and focusing my mind on greebling can be a good way of destressing, I find. I haven't posted this before, but I recently unearthed my very first version of Reliant, and indeed, one of the very first cg models I ever made. The cg file I've long since lost, but I was very happy to come across this picture in a storage box:
I'm attempting to channel Slartibartfast this week, and coming up with some more planets: I have also been doing some test renders to create rocket flames/smoke:
I think I'm on the final stretch with this set. Still got the monitors to sort out, and some more texturing, but it's getting there...
I love primitive starship designs – I remember that early Reliant from a while ago and I look forward to seeing its evolution
That is ridicilously good looking, that style you've created here is brute-ish industrial and also just gorgeous.
