I wonder what kind of show this would have been had they maintained all the episodes exactly as they were but it was an animated series for the whole five seasons. I mean with animation there would be more creative freedom with what you can depict on screen.
Small quibble but could be key. What he said is so recurring characters may or may not be included. ETA: Claudia Christian chimed in regarding the completed project...sorta. https://www.facebook.com/ClaudiaChr...oB3vWJRzuFoudH1f9ugK8tcmCDJcW41xwFs94wpdGd4wl
JMS's twitter feed is not an official source. An official source would be a press release by the production company (WB?) (which could be JMS in his capacity as the producer or whatever) generally with a release date, runtime, cast and media type. Details may vary. A tweet is not that.
I disagree. There is no source more official than the verified Twitter account of Babylon 5's creator.
Except that just because he created it conceptually doesn't mean he controls the bottom line on what gets created as a practical matter.
It does, actually, because Warner Bros. only owns the distribution rights to B5, a relationship that JMS does have the money and power to change were he inclined to do so.
WB owns ALL of the B5 universe, Airlocks to Zocalo with the single exception of feature film rights. JMS cannot do anything at all in the B5 universe without at least their permission, barring that one thing. If JMS says something is finished, it's finished. Have things been finished and not released at times? Sure. But it's unusual. JMS also clarified last night that 'main cast' = in the opening credits.
JMS has posted on Twitter asking for fans to help let the Decision Makers know that we want more Babylon 5. Let's see if we can get that #B5onCWin23 hashtag trending!
Just doin' my job! ETA: Trending at #3 in the US and #5 in the UK under Entertainment! ETA again - JMS just posted that we hit #1 in Entertaiment. Let's keep it going!
I'm hopeful that any revival would cause a surge in merch for the original. Blu-Rays, maybe a digital distribution deal for the soundtrack albums, print or eBook releases of the canon novels and comics. I'm pretty sure the original Battlestar Galactica had a good amount of stuff come out because the remake was boosting overall interest in the brand. I'm not sure if anything like that happened with the new Lost in Space, but, then, I didn't watch the new one or the original, so it's entirely possible it passed me by.
ThioJoe, a computer/tech Youtuber with 2.86 million subscribers and apparently big B5 fan, put out a video appeal to viewers for help regarding #B5onCWin23.
Somebody also suggested on one of the Facebook pages that Howard Stern had been a major fan back in the day so I tweeted him the link to JMS' post. Can't hurt, right?
Apparently the real size of Babylon 5 is much longer. Spoiler: Here's the source reference for the real size of B5 Interesting how we learn something new about a show we thought we knew plenty about.
I bought the HD version of the series on iTunes, which is a big improvement over the DVD image quality, although the aspect ratio is 4:3 and not 16:9. That's fine as the cropped CGI was pretty horrible. I'll probably shell out for the Blu-rays, should that happen. I haven't heard any announcement though since the rumours back in 2020.
