What if the Original first officer was never killed?

I completely give Cavit the benefit of the doubt. I might like Tom Paris, because I've watched a bunch of Voyager. But all Cavit can see is the son of an admiral who disgraced Starfleet, got himself thrown out, and turned traitor to join a terrorist group. Janeway and Harry are the outliers here, not Cavit and Chakotay.

Lt. Commander Cavit may have been a dumbass trying to get his cardio in during an emergency situation, but he was pretty restrained in regards to Tom Paris. Hell, Riker was a frigging prick to a lot of newcomers on the Enterprise. Regular Starfleet personnel, mind you, and not convicted terrorists like Paris :guffaw:

We should also ask ourselves which character we would dispense with to spare Cavit, unless he's simply written as a recurring character. Honestly, given that...
1. The only thing anyone seems to remember about Harry Kim is that he was never promoted, and
2. Not promoting Harry is one of Voyager's most universally disliked plot developments...
Yeah, I think he'd be the logical choice.

Uh, big difference: Harry Kim can jog into death as many times as he wants and get resurrected! A great asset on dangerous away missions were you might want a recyclable expendable to walk into the cave first. Cavit's only good for one booby trap.

He was a prick...but there must have been a reason Janeway picked him.

She probably picked Cavit for the same reason she did Tuvok, Paris, Chakotay, B'Elanna, and Seven. She seems to like people who are willing to challenge her, who are passionate about their own stances. It's just unfortunate that Cavit's passionate stance was against bracing for impact, and that's the order of hers he decided he was going to rebel against.

What if the founders is actually originally from the Delta Quadrant, fled for the Gamma eons ago, taking the ancestors of the Vorta we all know. The unmodified Vorta might be one of Talaxians' oldest ally..... :shifty:
