One of the more obscure allusions was the "cone creature" from Lovecraft's The Shadow Out of Time in one episode.

I'll have to re-read the story. Were the cone people the Great Race? Or were the mind travelers (from another star) the Great Race? The story had lots of holes, like the ghost things that were somehow restrained by locked trap doors and the need for the hypnosis machines.
