Poll Dune (2021) Spoiler/Rating Thread

It's hard to explain on screen that he is a mentat and has precinct vision.

If you show he is being trained as a Mentat then you won't understand that his visions of the future are something as unusual.

You did at least get the feeling that as the dukes son he is getting "a bit of everything" training.

 

Which is one of many reasons it's so hard to make a adaption of Dune work on ALL levels. And why I appreciate this version a lot for people that read the novel a lot and understand its nuances.

I have a good close connection to a ex girlfriend, and a few weeks ago she made a comment about The Dark Tower and how the only people that read and understand The Dark Tower are people that read Dune. I raised my hand a little and she just looked and said 'figures'. In a loving way.

 

He can see what the cops are up to.

 

Ha. That took me a minute to realize.

prescient = see the future
= joke on a typo.

 

I'm Dutch. Most of my British and American friends tell me my English is better than theirs is. I shall now sit in the corner of shame and not remove myself from it for several days.

It is a pretty subtle joke, which makes it all the funnier when you get it. I'm a high school English teacher and I had to read it a couple of times to get it. I kept thinking the "cops" were a play on characters from the book.

Well, you know how to spell "theirs" correctly and didn't insert an apostrophe so I'd say that you are redeemed.

Well, now that I know it's a guitar, I can hear it, but I would not have guessed otherwise.
