Avery Brooks to return as Sisko?

I trust Avery Brooks to continue to turn down revisiting the Sisko part unless he is certain that justice is being done to DS9 and all the characters in it.

Me too but the TOS films are great and added to much to the lore and characters of the show. Particularly Star Trek II, IV and VI stand out as great and contain a lot of good scenes, quotes and memories.

I realize I'm in the minority on this, but Sisko always bored me to tears. I'd rather see almost any other DS9 character return.

I don't see the need for Sisko to return onscreen. It would be enough to reference him in a series set in the future, say that he returned. Given that linear time doesn't exist in the celestial temple, Sisko could walk with the Prophets for a year, a century, or a few eons... and still be able to be there to hold Kassidy's hand in the delivery room.

Would be great to have a DS9 sequel show(s) in the like of ST Picard and ST Prodigy. As well wonderful be wonderful for Sisko to return in a starring role upon such.

It would be wonderful, however it seems less likely with every passing year.

Though I would like to see Avery Brooks as Sisko back in live action, what you wrote here got me thinking that Sisko could appear on Discovery without it being a problem because he could appear anywhere in time, or he could also appear in Lower Decks or Prodigy. With Prodigy being a Voyager sequel for the most part, we never got much crossover between DS9 and VOY anyway. Heck, I would be happy to see Sisko helping out Pike on Strange New Worlds.

If PIC was this dark, a DS9 sequel would begin with a baby in a furnace at the beginning of each episode and the entire studio would be lit by a single sputtering candle. They'd resurrect Jadzia and kill her a few more times.

Avery Brooks is done with Star Trek, and has been for some time. He is not returning as Sisko.

    Anyone's guess at this point...
They could like literally canonise the Writer's Room segments from "What We Left Behind" with Bashir turning up as the head of Section 31. Suddenly that implies everything from the speculative Season 8 happened too.

I don't believe Bashir would join Section 31 full time, let alone head it. Yes, he always had little fantasies about covert operations, but he was also deeply troubled by a lot of Section 31's actions. He worked hard to undo Section 31's attempted genocide of the Founders. He was troubled by a lot of the surveilance he found inside Sloan's mind. An occassional mission for Section 31 when the stakes are high and he's the only person well placed to do it, maybe. A full-time operative, no.

Bashir isn't just an operative in the DS9 season eight pitch, as ChristopherPike commented above, he is the head of Section 31.

I thought that was clever - Bashir works to take down S31, but realizes that the Federation needs it to survive.

I remember that, but I still think it would be out of character for Bashir.
(Now if it was Worf, maybe...)

I could see him doing it because he thinks with him in control at least he knows what they're up to rather than being in the dark like how it was on the show. Now that I think about it I think that would be interesting to have Bashir in that role playing off a new younger character who basically takes on the Bashir role to him being new Sloane. Bashir's optimisim is one of the best things I like about the show and I wouldn't want to take that away but you could play with people perceptions about what they perceive you to be doing vs what you're actually doing. You could sand down his edges a bit.

I don't think anyone could be head of Section 31 for very long until every trace of optimism was replaced by cynicism.
