DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

I haven't been keeping up, so maybe they are cancelled regardless, but this probably puts Doom Patrol and Titans in jeopardy right? Green Lantern is as good as cancelled too. 1 more season for Superman & Lois I guess.

This just sounds insane. Is the whole film just not considered up to new brand standards or something?

Maybe they plan to have killed HBO Max by the time it was going to come out, so it wouldn't have an outlet at that point... Though why not just dump it on the HBO cable channel at that point?

Why would they be cancelled? They are completely unrelated. That’s like saying this news would cancel Westworld

Variety says they've confirmed it: https://variety.com/2022/film/news/batgirl-not-released-warner-bros-hbo-max-1235331897/

If true, this really sucks, especially since it would've been the first live-action DC production since Catwoman to star a woman of color. I'd be suspicious of that, except that we've already gotten Aquaman and will be getting its sequel, Black Adam, and Blue Beetle over the next year or so, all with lead actors of color.

Well there must be a reason it was shelved. Probably wasn’t any good.

According to Variety, "the new corporate regime at Warner Bros. Discovery has pivoted the company’s priorities back to theatrical features, leaving “Batgirl” without a proper home. Studio insiders insist the decision was not driven by the quality of the film or the commitment of the filmmakers, but by the desire for the studio’s slate of DC features to be at a blockbuster scale. “Batgirl” was budgeted to screen in homes on HBO Max, and not for a major global release in theaters."

Which is a pretty ridiculous reason, especially if it isn't about the film's quality.

They canceled 'Legends of Tomorrow' rather than give it a shortened season to wrap up because the rent on the studio space it used was due and they didn't want to pay it. There's no telling what they'll do to save a buck.

When they announced Michael Keaton was coming back as Batman, I thought it was crazy but curious what it would play out like. And now between this and maaaaybe Flash getting the same treatment soon, it's unlikely to play out at all.

How bad does a movie have to be in order to be cancelled when it was straight-to-HBO? You're not paying extra for it, it's just more content. Mind boggles.

It was a Streaming-exclusive project, and the new ownership at Warner Bros. Discovery has changed priorities.

We'll probably be seeing similar news regarding the abandonment of Blue Beetle and Black Canary in the coming days.

They are killing HBO max.

As noted, the only person saying this at the moment is Grace Randolph, who is, as also noted, a hack.

Doesn't WB fully own DC Comics? That's probably in serious danger too at this point. And I guess Disney will end up buying WB in a few years?

Speaking of DC, I just watched their latest animated movie, Green Lantern: Beware my Power.
It was pretty good. For someone who has read over 200 issues of GL I should have seen that twist coming but the story was different enough to keep me in the dark. Saying that though I wasn’t a fan of how it ended. It was a tad disrespectful to the character.

Batwoman- canceled
Batgirl- Cancelled

Maybe the next iteration should be "Bat-Person" to be PC >_>

If WB/Discovery can cancel this there might be a tiny chance now that "The Flash" could get canceled if push came to shove.

We'll probably get some type of leaks in some form

Are you for real? We're not talking about a click-bait website or tabloid rag here.

Exactly.

Pretty much every one of the major Hollywood Trades has corroborated the story, with the only outlet not to have as-of-yet reported on the story being Entertainment Weekly.
