Avery Brooks to return as Sisko?

Not as popular as TNG, maybe, but more popular than Voyager. All TV shows were getting lower ratings as viewers abandon the networks and distributed to hundreds of cable channels.

That explains those who never saw the show, but those for switching to $100/mo cable would still tune in as they knew the time and place. Cable can't fully explain the ratings figures over time dropping, unless they didn't care for the show as much as they used to.

Personally? I think it'd be nice of Ben, Jake, and Kassidy got some closure in maybe a short t.v. film or a one season series. But I have a feeling even that is asking for too much. :/

What would've been great from the Paramount big wigs would've been (instead of Insurrection or Nemesis) a Star Trek movie featuring the casts of TNG and DS9 as they finish up the Dominion War together; this movie would involve a big plot that sees both the end of DS9 and TNG, but it would be split into two movies (c.f. Kill Bill Volume I and II, the last Harry Potter movie) to tell the story better (movie 1 would be released, then a few months later, movie 2.) But, that's just me.

I've never been as happy with the Star Trek movies as I am with the TV shows. The TV shows can take more risks. The movies are an enormous investment that cannot afford to alienate or confuse any part of their audience. They have to be safe. Cue Kirk's "risk is our business" speech.

The movies have been great, and have made it possible to tell big stories that wouldn't have been told as well on a TV show; not all of them are bad, kkt.

Sorry, when I think of great Star Trek moments, I think almost entirely of scenes from the TV shows.

I mean with a track record like The Transformers movies, Joel Schumacher's Batman movies, Tom Cruises' The Mummy ... are you sure?

You mean the same Transformer movies that made billions of dollars?

I mean, I don't like the films myself, but to argue that the Transformer movies have some kind of bad track record is divorced from reality.

Also, Batman Forever was the highest grossing film of 1995. Again, that's a winning track record.

On the gripping hand, Kurtzman has had a major hand in the revitalization of Star Trek, which as of ENT was a corpse. His track record includes (live action) CBSAA Trek, which, love it or hate it, is undeniably successful.

I've no idea whether Avery Brooks would have any interest in returning as Sisko (and comparisons to Picard would be an avalanche, I think) but it's a massive loose end that's out there and just waiting for a decent script and budget to tie it up.

Cirroc Lofton did mention how Brooks wasn't asked to play roles after ds9, that he felt Brooks was blacklisted. Honestly I'd love for them to somehow involve Brooks

At some point I’d like this era to be brave enough to stop using the existing characters, referring back, or relating in some way to established Star Trek and do something new. For all the overstated horror towards ‘Kurtzman Trek’, I think it is starting to feel a bit like a cheap ride at a theme park, relying on fan service and references to favourites. If it’s done really, really well it can work, like with SNW, but when every show has some sort of link or call back, it cheapens things for me. I know some others like it, but that’s what I feel about the over reliance on past Trek.

Yes... the Federation is supposed to be thousands (or tens of thousands) of inhabited planets, each of which have millions or billions of people... and yet, everybody seems to know each other as if the whole Federation was a town of 8,000 people where everybody knows everybody else's business.

Since DSC premiered in 2017, CBS/Paramount has never felt that their Trek shows could stand on their own without some link to a past show, however tenuous and paper-thin that link might be. It’s at the point now where they have an animated show whose entire premise is based on nostalgia for past shows to the point of ridiculousness.
