Ah, okay. Understood. Up until season 3, episode 3, when they added STAR TREK.

But keep in mind that during the title sequence, it says 'Based Upon STAR TREK', so it is still in there.

Besides, I firmly feel ENTERPRISE is a valuable addition to the ST universe. Definitely a Trek show.

"Spock's Brain" was not a bad episode.
ENT is better than DIS, PIC, SHO, LOW, and SNW.
DIS, PIC, SHO, and SNW are in an alternate universe.
    TAS is canon.

Strange New Worlds is not perfect. It is not the best Star Trek ever made. It has some issues with actors, characterisation, and plot. It is, however, vastly superior to Discovery in every conceivable way, and very much the show Discovery SHOULD have been.

I'm not sure people would've been so quick to appreciate what Strange New Worlds is doing without Discovery coming first to show off what modernised serialised Trek looks like.

Discovery isn't Trek that's modernized; it's modern expectation for a generic sci-fi show with the label Trek slapped on it. It's sort of gone the full circle. Modern sci-fi has been influenced by years of Trek. And now a Trek show that is modern sci-fi.

I’m well aware of the thread title, thanks.

I was literally trying to understand what you said, but yeah I get it now.

I'm not sure TAS as canon is controversial?

Sorry, I thought I must have stepped into the middle of a conversation without context. And I was saying I think (like some articles on Ex Astris Scientia say) that I opine that those shows are an alternate universe. Edited to rephrase appropriately.
Well, a some people think it is and a ton of others think it isn't.

TOS isn’t the most important show in the franchise and other Star Trek productions/writers/etc needn’t be so slavishly devoted to it.

I cut my Trek teeth during the TNG/DS9/VOY era and to me TOS has always been the odd man out. It’s a very important part of the franchise. And yes, it is the show that kicked off the franchise, the some type of holy grail or the gold standard by which all other Trek needs to measured - not so much.

I'll add my two cents on this. I think TOS is great, and it doesn't need to be treated as holy writ. Moreso, I don't think any Star Trek production should be treated as holy writ or immutable.

TOS is great. It started it all, and created the universe I love to play in.

Is it the best ST? No. Is it my favorite? Certainly not, as my many posts clearly which one it is.

But I still love it and respect it immensely. It has aged the worst, but what the hell do you expect? It's almost 60 years old! Very few shows or movies age well past 30 years.

TOS deserves some slack, not flak.

Discovery is a perfectly cromulent Star Trek show.
