Spoilers "Superman & Lois" Season 2

If Brainiac starts collecting planets instead of cities, what sort of medium are those planets suspended in?

If that tracks, then the Bizarro Earth we saw is not another World in the multiverse, but just the next Earth in a Jar on a shelf, next to Lois and Clark's Jar.

 

Everyone arguing about what Earth they're on and Clark having his powers enough to survive space...and no one is talking about how Clark had to change clothes while being carried into space at an incredible speed? Or did Tal change his clothes for him? Either way is funny to visualize.

 

About (1) powerless Superman surviving in space, and (2) he and Tal conversing, I've seen handwaves elsewhere I can swallow. For the first item, Clark's powers started returning as he got closer to the sun. For the second, their proximity to the sun let solar winds and particles transmit sound.

I'm sure Christopher is already gearing up to chapter-and-verse how implausible all that is, but it lets me accept the scene and enjoy the show, so:



As for the cube-shaped Bizarro Earth, I 100 percent fucking love it -- no explanation needed.

 

I was going to bring up the backwards-talking as being much more confusing to me when I tried to think about how it would work, but I don't think we heard anyone say more than a sentence at a time, so I guess it's just that the laws of grammar and the pronunciation of each word are reversed. If people were saying whole paragraphs backwards, that'd be really mind-bending, but I don't think that happened.

 

What I liked is that Clark's and Tal's Kryptonian minds were able to marshal the mental discipline to communicate on Bizarro Earth. Along with Superman's revelation in his interview with Lois that he had learned all of Earth's languages, it shows that Kryptonians in S&L's universe have "powers and abilities" that go beyond the physical.

 

Yeah...there's a movie that cries out for a tribute.

To me, it's no more contradictory than saying a planet has massive gravity and yet evolved life identical to Earth's. If one is acceptable I don't see how the other breaks internal consistency.

The fact that they actually made Bizzaro Earth a cube was one of my favorite parts of the season, it's just goofy that it's awesome.
As for the talking in space, yeah it's silly, but none of the Arrowverse shows have ever made any attempt to be scientifically plausible, so at this point none of that kind of stuff bothers me.
Now if this was Star Trek or something else that at least pretended to try to be somewhat plausible, it would have bothered me a lot more.

 

Except Supergirl did establish that Kryptonians couldn't breathe or fly in space. So there were limits on how implausible they let it get.

Like I said, what gets me is how S&L throws in all this completely inane 1950s stuff, yet plays it so damn ultra-solemnly like we're meant to see it as serious and grounded. At least when Legends did something totally ridiculous, it admitted and embraced the ridiculousness. This show is just working against itself, trying to be two incompatible things at once.

Surely Tal was slowly releasing highly compressed freeze breath that protected Superman from the sun and gave him a medium to speak and breathe.

 

Kal hold tons of compressed air in his lungs.

If he loses his powers unexpectedly without releasing it, dude is going to explode.

 

What contained it? In vacuum, it would dissipate almost instantly. You can't maintain any kind of air pressure without walls or planetary gravity, and the latter only works if you've got dozens of kilometers of air pressing down from above.

Clearly this was the show's homage to Superman IV.

 

Superman's testicles are actually warp nacelles and he's producing a static warp field around them and creating atmosphere

 

It's very true that marriage-obsessed Silver Age Lois was not her best look, but occasionally the real Lois Lane still shone through. I was struck awhile back by a story called "The Sightless Lois Lane," from Showcase #10. Lois is blinded in an accident, but is determined to adapt and continue doing her job. The level of professional respect she's afforded in the story is rather remarkable, particularly for the era. Her (all-male) colleagues in the Metropolis Reporters' Club actually buy a seeing-eye dog as a gift for her, "with our best wishes for your continued success." Shortly after, she uses quick thinking and ingenuity to beat them all to a story, whereupon one of them says admiringly, "Leave it to Lois! Even without eyes, she scooped us -- and I don't mind it!"

(And I intended to make this post a week or so ago, but couldn't immediately locate the story I was recalling at the time.)

So this Universe is a "Multiverse ###" that is different from the Arrow-verse.

That's basically what it comes down to.

That's why this Superman had a different # of children than the one in the Arrowverse and there is no mention of Supergirl.

 

Post-Crisis, Earth-Prime Superman and Lois also have "boys," plural.

 

Now more likely newborns. Them having twins at the same time as a single child means their backstory on Earth Prime would likely be the same. Which I kind of like compared to a major retcon of teen sons.

I do not have a strong opinion about this revelation. When this show debuted I assumed it was part of Earth Prime with small changes. But as time went on it was clearly something else.

I like the so called “Arrowverse” but it’s never been well planned or defined. Outside of the specific crossovers its a marketing brand. It’s a way to sell new shows.

Considering Superman and Lois are played by the same actors and this show loves using the Multiverse - it would be very easy to revisit those Earth Prime characters. Even if just a one time thing.
