What kind of Martial Arts would StarFleet be teaching to it's Officers?

Kamen Rider Blade

Vice Admiral

Given that StarFleet is composed of all Member Worlds of the UFP, the Martial Arts knowledge it should learn / integrate would be very Wide & Expansive IMO.

What forms of Martial Arts do you think they would be teaching in StarFleet Academy and continuously improving upon as you grow within StarFleet.

I have my own thoughts obviously, but I'm sure many of you with IRL military experience have their own POV as well.

This is of course seperate from Marksmenship training for usage of (Modern Day {≥ 22nd century}) Small Arms Energy Based Projectile Launchers

Kirk-fu, of course! And anbo-jyutsu. It's the ultimate evolution of the martial arts, after all!

But seriously, I suspect it would be something like taiho-jutsu, the art used by Japanese police to restrain offenders nonlethally and with minimal injury. I imagine Vulcan Suus mahna is based on similar principles.

Kirk-fu seems to work with Commander Ransom... :guffaw:
Commander Ransom is built like a Buff WWE Pro Wrestler.

Anything he hits is going feel alot of pain, doesn't matter if it's the legendary Double Ax-handle or palm strike.

His raw muscles will power him through alot of pain & damage.

He basically outstats most average humans.

Probably a hybrid of various techniques, coupled with the fact that different species have different vulnerabilities and weak spots. And like TNG, enthusiasts of various forms among the crew probably hold classes for those who want to learn.

The UFP would likely take various martial arts as they exist in different alien cultures (assuming they developed any martial arts to begin with) and then take the best of each and combine them all into new techniques which would be taught to SF officers.
The same (or very similar) programmes would likely be widely available to the general public for use as well depending if they wish to integrate those into their cultures (as I very much doubt each every member world would retain the use of older traditions for long periods of time - and certainly not after being part of UFP after the first 100 to 200 years).

It's the ultimate in martial arts, complete with unintentional Tron cosplay outfits too!

On the contrary -- people in integrated communities often make a point of retaining their ancestral traditions so as not to lose their cultural identity. For instance, look at how Jewish communities around the world still celebrate millennia-old holidays and rituals. The Federation supposedly celebrates diversity, not homogeneity (though the shows often fail to depict this effectively), so there shouldn't be any pressure to assimilate and abandon old customs.

And incredibly bad Japanese pronunciation.

You already have Teleporting StarShips & Transporters to pull off Teleportation.

You're not that far off to becoming a true Shinobi.

Ninpo in Trek:

Invisibility -- Jem'Hadar
Transformation/illusion -- Sylvia, Korob, Q, Ardra
Bunshin (cloning) -- Losira
Elemental control, enlargement -- Apollo
