Spoilers Season 3 wild speculation

Remember when the flagship of the Federation was steered by the doctor's son? So really having Seven leapfrog more experienced officers is the most TNG thing PIC did.

Experienced in WHAT? Borg tech?

Seven is an experienced officer in her own right (albeit outside of Starfleet).

Picard wants to leave a legacy (that's a major theme of the show). He's always been emotionally distant. He's had a tendency to push people away.

He's starting with the people closest to him -- his crew (Seven, Raffi, and Elnor).

Sweet shit, it was a two minute scene in one episode. It's not like she's the ship's permanent Captain or anything.

And even if she were, this is the same franchise where a Cadet who didn't even graduate the Academy was instantly promoted to Captain of the flagship. Seven being made Captain of the Stargazer is comparatively much more realistic.

I thought Kirk was a lieutenant?

A computer display does indeed list him as a Lieutenant in the movie, but in dialogue he is addressed as Cadet throughout the entire movie until his promotion.

Regardless, Lieutenant to Captain of the flagship is still extremely unrealistic, and Seven being made Captain of the Stargazer is still much more realistic comparatively speaking.

Eighteen years with the Borg (including commanding troops and a stint as Queen of a cube). Four years on Voyager. Plus another twenty years as a Fenris Ranger.

Seven has the experience. I will die on this hill. - . -

She has experience in general. but not Starfleet captain experience. She really should have sat in the mission specialist chair before going right to captain but also I really liked PIC S2 so I'm not even mad.

(Except about Jurati, the objectively best Trek character in two decades)

How much "Starfleet experience" does she need? Two years? Ten?

She served four years on Voyager. Her experience was clearly sufficient for Picard.

I'm concerned we're getting into nitpicking now.

There's a difference between Starfleet command experience and random "I've been in space before" experience.

She didn't even know the ship she in theory might have been about to command in battle. Did she even have a team when she was with the Power Rangers or did she mostly work alone?

Picard selected her for her expertise with Borg tech. Apparently that's all she needed to know.

How long have they been on the ship? It's never been mentioned.

If a CADET can skipper the thing, how difficult can it be?

Did they put a cadet in command of the ship three minutes before a battle after they'd been on board that ship for like six minutes total? I would also find that to be inappropriate, yes.

But for real I can't believe how they did my girl Jurati dirty.

She can probably skip the academic and PE courses in the Academy (after taking proficiency tests), but she'll need to take the other stuff. Discipline, how to act like an officer, those kinds of things.

I best rank I could see her getting is Lieutenant.

The show is called Star Trek PICARD.

There is no way in any kind of frozen over Hell that anything from DS9 will be a big thing in season 3 except for maybe a name drop like they did a few times in season 2. That's it.

I'm a friggin Niner, ok? It's my go to Star Trek show. But TPTB for this era of Star Trek literally give two things about DS9.
FUCK and ALL.

Please.

1) Worf is a DS9 character. As are O'Brien & Keiko.
2) Avery Brooks is a strange cat and may not be interested.
3) Rene has passed. As has Aron. So Odo & Nog are out.
4) Jadzia passed on the show.
5) That leaves Kira, Bashir, Jake, and Ezri if Brooks passed. Jake is not Starfleet and Kira would be more concerned with Bajor. All have few (if any) ties to Picard.

It's a show about Picard. Who makes more sense to be in a Picard show, TNG characters, Borg characters, or DS9 chatacters? It is common sense, not some crazy anti-DS9 bias.

Plus, DS9 ended fairly well. Sisko was a bit of a loose end. But Kira and Odo had an ending. Ezri & Bashir a beginning. Mikes & Keiko had their story. As did Rom & Quark.

TNG needed repair after Nemesis. And while Picard has stumbled with some plot points/believability/sonic screwdriver issues, it has done a pretty good job in my view. Not a homerun, but a solid double.

From TNG, we got Data, Riker, Trou, and Hugh in S1. In S2 we got Q and Guinan and Wesley. Beverly should be there at some point, ditto Worf & LaForge. I think that pacing & spacing is about right.

Plus, I really liked Jurati, Rios, and Raffi. With a bonus of Seven & Elnor.

Kirk's promotion has almost a Star Wars quality about it ("He is the Chosen One").
