News Ms Marvel on Disney+ anticipation thread

An interview with Iman Villani with The Hollywood Reporter. I love the fact that she was already such a fan of Kamala Khan that she cosplayed the character years before getting the part and even knew what comics they were drawing from when she did her audition scene.

Also, there is a 5 minute mini documentary on Disney Plus titled A Fan's guide to Ms Marvel that covers a lot of the same ground and lets us in on her old cosplay.

Can't wait to watch it... right after Obi Wan ;)

In seriousness though why do they have to release both on a Wednesday? Does it really matter? Put this out on a Monday or Tuesday, or whenever. Will it really make a difference?
Then it's not sharing the online instant reaction chat/limelight with another big Disney series.

Just curious if there's a reason why it has to be a Wednesday

I was shocked when I realized they were releasing at the same time as Obi-Wan. Up until now they had been rotating between Marvel and Star Wars, with at least a week or two between them.

Or it could be an experiment in must see viewing on a streaming Network. Two big shows released the same night and you don't have to worry about them being on separate channels.

It will be happening again in August/September with She-Hulk and Andor too

So judging by the comments I'm seeing on Instagram & Facebook advertisements of the show, the racists are gonna be out en masse tomorrow and the next few days. I predict it will be bigger than the Moses Ingram thing.
*sigh* I hate this world. Like I really do, the world of the internet "fans" just gets worse and worse every year

What is interesting though, is that toxic fandom has found a way of uniting those fans in opposition. After the issues with the Hugo awards a few years back, it seems every year since works by women and/or non-white authors have won with very little "noise" on the internet.

It has nothing to do with fans, or fandom. Racism is becoming mainstream again in much of American society. Can't speak to Europe, as I have no experience there. But in the US, it's a growing cultural pushback against "wokeness" and the wrongful perception that granting minorities equal status somehow knocks down whites. As though freedom were a zero sum game, and "traditional America" is losing. If you look for it, and know which buzz words and key phrases to watch out for, it's literally everywhere.

Racism has been open and acceptable within many groups in Europe--it is under the guise of nationalist arguments. That immigrants come to countries to take advantage of their good will but refuse to assimilate into the local culture. Multiculturalism is a concept that is abhorrent. Of course that is not the majority view but it is so acceptable I've heard people expressing these arguments at state department social events. If a member of the French, Dutch or Belgium foreign service is comfortable making those arguments in the realm of an embassy hosted social gathering, then one imagines it must be considered an acceptable one.
