That R1 scene only existed to pander to a part of the SW fanbase that believe they need to see lightsabers flashing around in a story that's not about the Jedi/Sith war at all. It had absolutely nothing to do with the film's story arc, and without it, would have flowed right into Star Wars without missing a beat. In fact, R1 should have used Stormtroopers to attack the Rebels handing off the plans, as they were always making the first strike as seen in the next film (in chronological order), so there would have been consistency of Imperial methods, instead of..lightsaber porn.

The fact that it was added later is irrelevant. It's not pointless, it's an extraordinarily important part of the movie's arcs. If you can't see it, that's on you, not the film.

To be fair, without that Vader scene the film would be rather boring.

That last Vader scene was one of the BEST things in that film (Rogue One), hands down.

Now episode 3 was good - and has made me very interested in this series.

That said, I'm sorry but how in the hell can Darth Vader suddenly loose track of Obi-Wan because of a small field of fire? I really hope its something Vader decided (IE - He just really wants Obi-Wan to suffer both physically and emotionally for what Obi-Wan did to him.

That's the only reason I can see Darth Vader suddenly loose track of Obi-Wan.

I'm also really liking the young actress they got to play little Leia - but yeah come on after this; there's NO WAY the message she gives R2D2 in STAR WARS makes sense. After this they need another remaster of STAR WARS with a better more personal message from the woman he saved (and who also may have saved him).

Also, naïve as it may sound, but I was taken aback by Vader's brutality in the village - particularly force snapping that kid's neck. Yikes. That was some pretty gruesome hardball he was playing with Obiwan to draw him out. But you know, it's Vader. We know what he's capable of. Still, it's one thing to see him choking Rebel troops or Empire officers with a disturbing lack of faith, but snapping a kid's neck is something else.

Seeing that brutality may have been what later convinced Kenobi in ROTJ that Anakin was truly gone and only Vader remained.

I've read plenty about how the Vader stuff was a late addition. It matters not.

Again, regardless of HOW something got into a movie, it's in there. It's a part of it. The behind the scenes stuff doesn't friggin' matter. Plenty of things in movies weren't planned from the jump: reshoots, late additions, things found/changed in the edit, improvised on the set, etc. etc.

It won't. It was just a quick shout-out to the original plan of Owen and Obi Wan being brothers, which was eventually dropped and then retconned to the fact that Obi Wan just has "a" brother out there somewhere.

I presume Obi-Wan having a brother is meant to be a sideways nod to the fact that at one point during RotJ's proproduciton, Owen was going to be said to be Ben's brother (another thing that slipped into the RotJ novelization IIRC.)

Way better than episode 1 and 2 but still felt a bit off. Obi Wan seeing Vader for the first time, I wanted more shock and horror, the slow chase which just felt like a sound stage and they couldn't do much more with it.

I just wonder if they're using the same AI driven filter for him that they did for Hamill in BoBF & Mando. I mean if that approach would suit anyone, it would be Vader, given that it was always at least somewhat processed ADR.

I was thinking the same too. Would love to know how they did it but definitely sounds like the Vader we remember.

Some random thoughts and questions. How much does Owen Lars know about what happened to Anakin? Does he he know what Obi Wan did to him?

I'm liking the show a lot, so this is a joking gripe...

There continues to be an odd manner of showing people stymied by the smallest of obstacles. First it was Leia's pursuers stopped by a few branches, this ep had Obi-Wan struggling to open a laser-gate that could easily have been walked around, and bad guys not being able to follow good guys because of some localized flames. It's vaguely comical, yo.

Obi Wan "struggled" with the gate for exactly two seconds before finding a way to open it. Yes, he could have gone around it, but that would have taken longer than the actual solution.

It was obvious that Vader was letting Obi Wan escape to prolong his "suffering." Vader literally extinguished the fire himself moments earlier, he could have easily done the same.

I agree that Jones' voice sounds much more powerful and less aged than it did in "Rogue One." Sadly, the process you refer to with Mark Hamill isn't an "AI filter." They literally use sound bytes to create his vocal performance entirely in a computer.

There's literally zero of Mark Hamill's voice in his Mandalorian "appearances." Which strikes me as very sad. Surely there were other methods available that may not have sounded perfect, but would at least have allowed Hamill himself to actually "be" in the show.
