Maybe the remaining-in-service Steamrunner-class ships are all too far to respond to this one?

Wow. There are no less than 7 class ships in that fleet. That’s the most I think we’ve ever seen in one place in all of Trek.

Wouldn't they need every available ship? Why would even one stay back at the first anomaly?

The Borg Queen was coordinating the fleet, so she probably used as many as she thought necessary.

There was also supposed to be Sovereign class USS Venture, USS Pachacuti, USS Valkyrie & USS Arsinoe there in the first episode.

I don't remember seeing 8 Sovereigns there. They must have had different names because the timeline wasn't 100% reset.

In Deep Space Nine we see fleets with eight Starfleet ship classes (e.g. in "Sacrifice of Angels", "The Changing Face of Evil", and "What You Leave Behind") – Galaxy, Nebula, Excelsior, Miranda, Akira, Steamrunner, Saber, and Defiant.

At least nine Starfleet ship classes are visible in the battle of Sector 001 - Oberth, Miranda, Nebula, Defiant, Saber, Steamrunner, Akira, Norway, Sovereign.

Edit: But wait - aren't there ten classes in PIC? Akira, Excelsior II, Gagarin, Inquiry, Luna, Reliant, Ross, Sagan, Sovereign, Sutherland.

According to an interview with Dave Blass, we will see new ships in Season 3.
Though he didn't specify if he meant new for Picard or new for Star Trek on a whole.

He said people who like ships will enjoy Season 3 for that aspect at least.

That is true, but were all the ships present at those engagements after whom all those classes were named? That’s what I was referring to.
