Has SNW Converted Any Non-Trekkies In Your Life?

In the 13 years I've known my wife I have never really been able to get her into Star Trek. She's always been more into vampires and rom-coms. I did see a glimmer of hope, however, when she got really into The Mandalorian (mostly for Grogu, but also because it's a good show) and when SNW was announced I had a feeling it might appeal to her. I got her to begrudgingly watch the pilot episode this past weekend, and to my surprise, the next morning I awoke to the sound of her starting up the second episode on her own!

She's really enjoyed the show so far and has stated that Pike is by far the best looking of the captains. Whatever the reason, I'm pretty thrilled that she'll be watching it with me every week from now on instead of me watching it on my own like I have with Picard and Discovery. The closest she's ever gotten to watching Trek on her own unprompted was TNG but this show really does seem to have captured her interest! Woo hoo! :techman:

Nope.

Despite 30+ years of intense effort, my wife steadfastly refuses to embrace her inner geek. SW, ST, Aliens, you name it. She is immune.

She is, however, going to wear my old leather flight jacket to the Top Gun 2 premiere. That is as close as she will ever get in her life to some kind of cosplay.

Congratulations. I did the same with my ex wife when I got here into marvel movies. She used to call me a weirdo for collecting comic books. I finally thought after she saw Iron Man she would lay off mr about it. She didn't. Lol. Kind of wish I wouldn't have gotten her into my movies though because that was my only quiet time when I was watching my movies. :brickwall: I still had star trek though she was too lazy to put in the time for it except for the kelvinverse and I hated those so I didn't mind

Two of my younger friends watched the first episode of Strange New Worlds. They loved it. The door is open! Though they were both kind of floored by how sexy it was, too. I really want to show them DS9.

"Awake! Awake! My head doth ache, the privies overflow!... " ;)

The proper lyrics were:
"Awake! Awake! The day doth break, the Faire is open to all!"
They never sang that one at the faires I attended, but the day drinking started just before 9 AM.

I have a friend who likes science fiction. He doesn't seek it out, but, he does enjoy it. He's not into Star Trek, but he started watching Strange New Worlds and absolutely loves it. The trailers really got him interested and now he's really into the series.

Having not seen much of Trek in the past, I was filling him on the events of Discovery the pilot episode touches. I was curious if he was confused and he felt the series did a very good job explaining it. If anything, he's very curious and what's to see Discovery now as a result.

Among my circle of friends, I normally don't talk about Star Trek. The only new one we've brought up when hanging out in the flesh is Picard only because we're all of the age where we used to watch TNG.

But in terms of stuff I'd want to show my father, Strange New Worlds is the one I'd show him. He's a fair-weather Baby Boomer fan of TOS. My mother was more of the Trekkie. Sometimes my father would watch TNG, DS9, or VOY with the family in the '90s, but I don't think he was really a fan of those shows. But he likes TOS and the TOS Movies, he's just not hardcore about it.

So far it's shallow compared to DS9. But this is the age of ADHD. So maybe SNW is exactly what they needed.

Lower Decks is the one that seems to have pulled in all of my non-Trek friends. Which I'm not gonna complain about, given how much I like that show. :D
