Yeah, I guess that's true.

I think you're spot on. They look like evolved animals (Rabbit, Pig, Squid, Rooster) rather than aliens.
I wasn't aware of Counter Earth, but does seem a lot more likely, and according to the linked article Warlock was involved at least one story involving it, and we already know he's in Vol. 3.
I definitely saw that they looked humanoid animals, but so many shows and movies have aliens that look like Earth animals, I just assumed they were aliens.

So we see a shot of Nebula also in that. Does this mean they've decided to join the new Nova Corps or something?

Or are those Kree uniforms? I got them jumbled up.

They're neither. The uniform design is clearly based on the comics uniforms of the Guardians of the Galaxy themselves (the ones from the 2008 run which introduced the version of the team that the movies are based on).

But wasn't the 2008 costume something he got from the Kree? That's what I was trying to remember.

Yep, they gave their proto-Guardians team/team of expendable prisoners uniforms that look generally like that, with the logo in the middle customized for each member.

Oh, so it's not a normal Kree uniform, it's a Prisoner suit?

The Kree in the Star-Lord mini-series the uniform originally came from all wear different uniforms*, or more casual attire. The prisoners start out all wearing generic green-grey-ish prison clothes*, and the ones that get recruited for the mission get a variant of the Star-Lord uniform seen in the pic posted above. It is noted that "the uniforms dampen heat signature", which is important to the mission.

Oh, also only Peter and Captain Universe have special symbols on their uniforms, the other members (Groot, Rocket, Mantis, Bug and Deathcry) just have that rectangular outline thingie. Also the color of the outline changed from grey to red to between Annihilation: Conquest and the DNA GOTG ongoing.

Honestly, I'm just glad they didn't give them all the white/green uniform Captain Marvel originally wore, since the colors denoted rank and it looked really stupid to have an entire bridge crew of captains...

Yeah, bridge crews should only be commanders ;)

Counter-Earth. Wasn't expecting to go there..

More to the point, Counter-Earth is the home of the High Evolutionary.

By the way, that Warlock story set on Counter Earth? It was a story from before Jim Starlin took over the character and was the retelling of the story of Jesus with Adam in the role of Jesus. No, really, right down to the crucifixion and resurrection.

I'm glad Gunn is doing this, because I don't think I'd trust anyone else to take a concept as bad as Counter Earth and make it entertaining. The High Evolutionary is ok by himself, but the little I've read with Counter Earth always irritated me. It maybe showing up here at least gives Gunn a chance to make it interesting, and probably means we won't have to see it again, which is the best part.

I mean I assumed that the special would be great anyway, Gunn hasn't had a miss yet when it comes to superhero stuff in my opinion, but he's definitely the MCU person I'd choose to use the High Evolutionary, so I'm glad that's apparently what is happening.

We might be getting more backstory on Rocket's past with being experimented on by evolved animals.

Also this ties into Gunns comments that this movie will have a large amount of prosthetic makeup

If it's Counter Earth, the prosthetics will be on all the Animal People.

It sounds like there a chance that the X-Men '97 Disney+ series could be canon to the MCU, if this quote from head writer Beau DeMayo is anything to go buy. (I got the quote from Io9's Morning Spoilers from yesterday)
The one thing I can say towards that is, I know sometimes we say, No comment,’ and it’s like, ‘They’re just being obstinate.’ I’m gonna go with no comment here because part of the surprise will be finding that out when you experience the show. I can’t speak to marketing, but I think there is a degree of—you will be asking that question.

Eventually they're going to bring in mutants and in order to keep the social commentary they should take some cues from the hysteria around trans kids and the current anti-LGBTQ hysteria, a lot of BLM too. Have people upset that their kids go to school with mutant kids and have a lot of the animosity directed at them. Mutant activists being villainized for just calling out injustice and blamed for violence committed against them. Xavier's school would be a haven from this. Mutants should also have their own subculture with slang and phrases that they understand but slowly start creeping into mainstream culture, like there would be a Mutant Twitter.
