I actually put BOTH seasons of PICARD above "First Contact" a movie which cemented my belief TNG movies were set in a different universe because none of what was established made any common sense or correlated with Star Trek: The Next Generation.
STFC was campy fan-party fluff with pop culture top-10 hits, long before 21st century Trek movies did it (and BEYOND did it a lot more artfully, IMHO!) I'm not going to argue against it being in a different universe or timeline to the one that the hip'n'trendy "JL" is in along with the "EX-B's"... or the original one either. Either way, it was bad enough when "The Visitors" became "The V's" in 2009...)
PIC has had its ups and downs, but it's not always "doing it first" but "doing it better". One example includes Doctor Who - it referenced the destruction of Atlantis three times and at least each time it was crap. The same show had Gallifrey destroyed twice (or three times had the original season 23 not been put on hiatus and retooled). The most recent attempt, as committed by the Master because he throw a temper tantrum over hating the Doctor, was far more effective than a zillion CGI cybernetic robot salt shakers on screen, though in fairness the ultimate reason for the Master was so badly executed that there are a dozen ways to quickly retcon and undo it. Which is okay, the more shows retcon themselves, the more the retcons will be retconned too. Probably. The fact DW already said "time can be rewritten" pretty much wipes the slate clean each and every time, so something else and more clever needs to keep it genuinely interesting than the Etch-a-sketch playground that's now ubiquitous.
