That episode is a perfect blend of '90s Trek with TOS sensibilities and horror elements. It's always been creepy but over the years the effectiveness of the story and of Michael McKean's performance as the Clown grow. So much emotional weight in a standalone episode about a holographic simulation to keep people in survival hibernation alert and aware, and starring a clown as the main villain, no less.

Totally agree. The Thaw gave me nightmares when I first saw it. It's one of my favourite episodes. It's worth listening to the Delta Flyers podcast episode about it - they interviewed Marvin Rush about the choices he made as the director.

VOY ranks near the bottom of my list of Trek series by preference but damn, when that show knocked it out of the ballpark they hit a grand slam. That's just an amazing episode.

Ugh. No. Creepy insipid shock horror is not enjoyable.

I was thinking by the end of 2023 we should have seen at least another 90 Trek episodes air.

    SNW seasons 1&2, 20 episodes
    Picard season 3, 10 episodes
    LD seasons 3&4, 20 episodes
Prodigy second half of s1/full s2, 30 episodes
    Discovery season 5, 10 episodes

DAMN. I forgot about that episode. Janeway is *such* a badass here and Michael McKean is awesome (as always).

    ^ What he said. *nodding*

I want to see Q2 first just to see if Keegan has his dad's knack for being Q.

It's one of the problems I have with the 'larger than life' Janeway portrayal. Or rather, with the enemies around her. I'd have liked to see her run into enemies that don't bow to her (even when she 'wins') slightly more often than she did. For example, the guy from Persistence of Vision that kept mocking her even after Janeway thought she captured him. That's something we very rarely see in the later seasons, if ever.

Even Mr. Persistence never pestered her again. Because he knew he'd had a near miss with the Chuck Norris of Star Trek and didn't want to risk a rematch. ;)

He only seems to have operated within Botha space anyway, and not beyond that (as that was marked as 'dangerous' and Janeway was warned before she entered it). You could as easily interpret the situation as that Janeway never dared to return there :)

(In reality, I see the 'resolution' as a draw. Voyager was able to repel the attack, but not to capture the aggressor and they could do nothing else but continue on their journey)

One of the few people to tangle with the Janeway and force a draw...

It was Kes, not Janeway, who deserved the credit for scaring that creature off,

Janeway was always getting the crew into trouble though. And rarely did anybody stand up to her. If Voyager was more realistic, she'd have been in the brig a few times.

I can't remember the episode, but there was a brother and sister who needed the crew's help, and at one point the sister calls Janeway a "coward".

Hard to say going strong without numbers on the various series.

Plus there's the time period from the last movie to now, with a follow on movie uncertain. Star Trek is in existance, but more than that?
